Jerzy Hoffman
Jerzy Julian Hoffman (; born 15 March 1932) is a Polish director, screenwriter, and producer. He received the Polish Academy Life Achievement Award in February 2006. Hoffman is best known for his works in ''The Deluge (film), The Deluge'' (1974) and ''With Fire and Sword (film), With Fire and Sword'' (1999), the former of which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. His other notable credits were in ''Three Steps on Earth'' (1965) and ''Colonel Wolodyjowski (film), Colonel Wolodyjowski'' (1969). ''The Third Part of the Night'' () is a 1971 Polish avant-garde psychological horror-drama film. It is set in Nazi-occupied Poland and directed by Andrzej Żuławski. Plot The film is set during the occupation of Poland during World War II. The young man Michał witnesses German Nazi soldiers slaughter his wife, son and mother at their villa. Michał and his father avoid death by hiding in a nearby forest, from where they see the murders. Michał decides to join the resistance but before his first meeting, the Gestapo kills his go-between and chases him through the town. He runs into an apartment of a pregnant woman and helps her give birth. The woman appears to be a doppelganger of his murdered wife. ''Diabeł'' (English: ''The Devil'') is a 1972 Polish Historical drama, historical Horror film, horror written and directed by Andrzej Żuławski. Released in 1972, it was banned by the Communist government in Poland until 1987. Plot The movie opens immediately after the Second Partition of Poland in 1793, with the entry of Prussian troops into Greater Poland. A Stranger clad in black (Wojciech Pszoniak) enters a prison where Jakub (Leszek Teleszyński) is being held on charges that he tried to assassinate the king as part of a conspiracy. The Stranger frees Jakub in the midst of a riot, tells him to return home, and sends a white-clad nun (Monika Niemczyk) to accompany Jakub. Leprosy, also known as Hansen's disease (HD), is a Chronic condition, long-term infection by the bacteria ''Mycobacterium leprae'' or ''Mycobacterium lepromatosis''.
