Leona Popović
Leona Popović (; born 13 November 1997) is a Croatian alpine ski racer. Previously, she competed in all winter disciplines, but now specialises in slalom. Her best World Cup finish is 2nd place in slalom. Popović's first major competition was the 2015 World Championships in Beaver Creek, USA, where she competed in all disciplines at age seventeen; her best result was 27th in slalom. By her 22nd birthday, she had incurred three surgeries on her left leg. In 2015, she broke her tibia while training slalom, and two surgeries were required in 2018 to fix torn knee ligaments ( ACL and MCL) sustained in a crash at the Olympics in the second run of the giant slalom Giant slalom (GS) is an alpine skiing and alpine snowboarding competitive discipline. 2023 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Women's Overall
The women's overall competition in the 2023 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup consisted of 38 events in four disciplines: downhill (DH) (9 races), super-G (SG) (8 races), giant slalom (GS) (10 races), and slalom (SL) (11 races). The fifth and sixth disciplines, parallel (PAR). and Alpine combined (AC), had all events in the 2022–23 season cancelled, either due to the schedule disruption cased by the COVID-19 pandemic (AC) or due to bad weather (PAR). The original schedule called for 42 races, but in addition to the parallel, two downhills and a super-G were cancelled during the season. 2017 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Women's Super-G
The women's super-G in the 2017 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup involved seven events, including the season final in Aspen, Colorado (USA). Defending discipline (and overall) champion Lara Gut from Switzerland got off to a great start by winning the first three races, but she suffered a season-ending injury in early February, which led to a tight battle between the two top contenders remaining: Slovenia's Ilka Štuhec and Liechtenstein's Tina Weirather. With just the season finals in Aspen remaining, Štuhec, who had won two races in the discipline and won the season title in the downhill the day before the race, held a 15-point lead over Weirather, but Weirather nipped Štuhec by 0.35 seconds in the finals, giving her the season title by 5 points. 2017 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Women's Giant Slalom
The women's giant slalom in the 2017 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup consisted of nine events, including the World Cup finals in Aspen, Colorado (USA). Tessa Worley of France had never won a season-long championship in the World Cup but this season had reached the giant slalom podium seven times, including three wins, and held an 80-point lead over runner-up Mikaela Shiffrin of the US in the standings before the finals. In the finals, Worley finished fifth (one spot ahead of Shiffrin) and became a first-time discipline champion. The season was interrupted by the 2017 World Ski Championships, which were held from 6–20 February in St. Moritz, Switzerland. The women's giant slalom was held on 16 February.
