Leith Academy
Leith Academy is a state school in Leith, Edinburgh. It currently educates around 1000 pupils and around 2,800 part-time adult learners. Mike Irving has been head teacher since August 2017. History It is one of the oldest schools in Scotland, with its founding usually credited to 1560, though there are records of a Leith grammar school as early as 1521 ("maister of the gramer scule of Leith"). To begin with the school was under the control of the kirk session of South Leith Parish Church. It remained so until 1806. It is not known where the school met until 1636 when records make reference to meeting in Trinity House. The school met there until 1710 when, after a disagreement about rent, the kirk session decided to move the school to King James hospital which stood on what is now South Leith Parish churchyard. Douglas Millings
Arnold "Dougie" Millings (30 July 1913, in Manchester – 20 September 2001, in London) was a London-based tailor known as "the Beatles' tailor". Millings' shop was located on 63 Old Compton Street in Soho and began designing for British pop stars such as Cliff Richard, Tommy Steele, and Adam Faith in the early 1960s and made the collarless suits the Beatles wore at the height of Beatlemania in 1963 (inspired by Pierre Cardin) as well as their stage suits for the movie ''Help!''. Andrew McNeil
Andrew McNeil (born 19 January 1987 in Edinburgh) is a Scottish retired football goalkeeper who is the goalkeeping coach at Hong Kong Premier League club R&F (Hong Kong). McNeil was previously with Hibernian, for whom he played in the 2007 Scottish League Cup Final win. David William McLetchie CBE (6 August 1952 – 12 August 2013) was a Scottish politician who served as Leader of the Scottish Conservative Party from 1999 to 2005. Peter Heatly
Sir Peter Heatly, (9 June 192417 September 2015) was a Scottish diver and Chairman of the Commonwealth Games Federation. He competed in the 3 m springboard and 10 m platform at the 1948 and 1952 Olympics, at the 1950, 1954 and 1958 British Empire Games, and at the 1954 European Championships. He won five British Empire Games medals and one European medal, while his best Olympic result was fifth place in 1948. Heatly was knighted in 1990, before being inducted into the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame in 2002, the Scottish Swimming Hall of Fame in 2010 and the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 2016. Leigh Griffiths (born 20 August 1990) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a striker for Australian club Mandurah City, as well as being part of the coaching staff. Griffiths started his career at Livingston where he made his debut as a sixteen-year-old. He then moved to Dundee in 2009 for £125,000.
