Leigh, Greater Manchester
Leigh is a town in Greater Manchester, England, on low-lying land northwest of Chat Moss. Within the boundaries of the Historic counties of England, historic county of Lancashire, Leigh was originally the centre of a large ecclesiastical parish covering six vills or townships. When the three townships of Pennington, Greater Manchester, Pennington, Westleigh, Greater Manchester, Westleigh and Bedford, Greater Manchester, Bedford merged in 1875, forming the Leigh Local Board District, Leigh became the official name for the town, although it had been applied to the area of Pennington and Westleigh around the parish church for many centuries. The town became an Urban district (Great Britain and Ireland), urban district in 1894 when part of Atherton was added. In 1899 Leigh became a municipal borough. Leigh Lake
Leigh Lake is located in Grand Teton National Park, in the U. S. state of Wyoming. The glacially formed lake is wide and long from north to south. Situated just southeast of Mount Moran, the lake is at the terminus of both Paintbrush and Leigh Canyons. The lake can be accessed from the Leigh Lake Trail which follows the eastern shores of String Lake a distance of one mile (1.6 km) and is an easy hike over level terrain. The Leigh Lake Ranger Patrol Cabin is located on the northeast shore of the lake and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The lake was named for Richard "Beaver Dick" Leigh, a mountain guide. The canyon was formed by glaciers which retreated at the end of the last glacial maximum approximately 15,000 years ago, leaving behind a U-shaped valley. Mimosa Hall (Leigh, Texas)
Mimosa Hall is the name of a plantation house in Leigh, Texas. John J. Webster built Mimosa Hall in 1844. Webster, born in Alabama in 1796, the son of a revolutionary soldier, was an architect. Webster moved to Texas in 1839 with his wife, Miriam Webster, and their children. History Mimosa Hall was the first brick house in Harrison County, originally situated in the middle of of land. Enslaved people made all of the bricks and cut all of the lumber on the plantation. The plantation was primarily used for planting. The family cemetery was on the property adjoining the house. Nestled two miles (3 km) back in the woods, an old brick wall on the top of a knoll surrounds the cemetery. The original family was all buried there, and their descendants still maintain the cemetery. The American Museum in Britain has in its permanent collection a quilt made by people enslaved on the Mimosa Hall Plantation. The quilt, c. 1860, is called "The Chalice." Leigh () is a small coastal community in the north of the Auckland Region of New Zealand. It lies on the west side of Omaha Cove, a small inlet within Ōmaha Bay to the south of Cape Rodney. It is 13 km from Matakana, 21 km from Warkworth, New Zealand, Warkworth and approximately 92 km north of Auckland, Auckland City.
