''Le Soleil'' (''The Sun'') is a French-language daily newspaper in Quebec City, Quebec. It was founded on December 28, 1896. It is distributed mainly in Quebec City; however, it is also for sale at newsstands in Ottawa, Montreal, New Brunswick and some places in Florida, where many Quebecers spend the winter. ''Le Soleil'' ("The Sun") was a French daily newspaper. It was founded in 1873 and run by the journalists Édouard Hervé and Jean-Jacques Weiss. ''Le Soleil'' was a Monarchism in France, monarchist daily, more moderate than others, sold for five centimes at the end of the nineteenth and start of the twentieth century. It was located in the rue du Croissant. It was one of two French newspapers that gave the best coverage of international news, along with ''Le Temps (1861-1942), Le Temps''. History The newspaper had two founders and editors, Jean-Jacques Weiss ( 1827 - 1891) and Édouard Hervé (1835 - 1899), friends who had worked together on the Orleanist and liberal ''Journal de Paris''. They launched the first issue on 28 April 1867. ''Le Soleil'' is a state-run daily newspaper published in Dakar, Senegal and founded in 1970. It was founded as a state-run newspaper by Senegal president Léopold Sédar Senghor at a time when press freedoms were tightly circumscribed. Since Senegal's transition to a democracy in 2000, the state has remained the main shareholder. History In 1933, French press publisher Charles de Breteuil founded the ''Paris-Dakar'' as a weekly newspaper. The ''Paris-Dakar'' would in 1936 become the first daily newspaper in subsaharan Africa. Following the independence of Senegal, the paper changed its name in 1961 and became the ''Dakar-Matin''. On 20 May 1970, it finally became ''Le Soleil''. During the 19th and 20th centuries, hundreds of French-language newspapers, many short-lived, were published in the United States by Franco-Americans, immigrants from Canada, France, and other French-speaking countries. In New England alone, more than 250 journals had been established and ceased publication before 1940. In the latter half of the 20th century Americanization, the adoption of mass media and the English only movement resulted in a severe decline in French-language newspapers, with many defunct by the end of the Second World War.
