The LeMay Family Collection Foundation was born out of Harold LeMay's dream of keeping his massive car collection together and in a place where others could appreciate it. Harold E. LeMay (September 4, 1919 – November 4, 2000) was the owner of Harold LeMay Enterprises, a refuse company in the Tacoma, Washington metro area. He was the owner of one of the largest private automobile collections in the world at the time of his death. Biography LeMay was born in Yakima, Washington in 1919. America's Car Museum
LeMay - America's Car Museum is a museum in the city of Tacoma, Washington. The museum is adjacent to the Tacoma Dome and opened on June 2, 2012. Many of the cars on display were donated to the museum by the family of Harold LeMay. Details Harold LeMay owned a successful refuse company, Harold LeMay Enterprises, within the Tacoma metro area and amassed the world's largest private car collection. After his death, the city of Tacoma donated of land next to the Tacoma Dome for the museum that would contain some of his car collection. The majority of the collection remains at the LeMay Family Collection at Marymount in nearby Spanaway. Marymount Military Academy
Marymount Military Academy was a boys' military school in Tacoma, Washington that was in operation first as a military academy, then as a private boys' school from 1923 to 1976. History Marymount was purchased in 1919 by the Sisters of St. Dominic on the outskirts of Tacoma, Washington in present-day Parkland. The remote plot on which it stands was bought from the Shields family in 1920. The property was known as ''"Wright's Acre Tracts",'' owned by the people who built Annie Wright School. The Shields' property was located on the John Mahon Road, now known as Military Road. The inadequacy of the boys' school (St. Edward's) necessitated the building of the present Marymount Academy in 1922. At that time, Parkland was mostly prairieland. Nancy LeMay
Nancy LeMay (born May 3, 1936) is an American car enthusiast and collector. Nancy met Harold LeMay in the early 1960s, and they were married in 1963; between them they had eight children. One thing Nancy and Harold bonded over was their collections. This included hundreds of vintage cars, but also a great deal of Americana (culture), Americana, from toys to signs to dental equipment. While Harold is often cited as the collector of the family, Nancy was just as passionate about it as him. She even got her commercial driver's license endorsement, in case it was needed for some of the larger vehicles in their collection. Harold and Nancy started the Annual LeMay Car Show in the late 1970s. Then, it was a small gathering of family friends. In the decades since then, Nancy has continued to host the show as it has grown into a much-anticipated annual event, drawing thousands of people each year. The Annual LeMay Car Show began in 1978, as a small gathering with Harold and Nancy LeMay and friends. The tradition continues to this day, with over 1,000 vintage cars shown on the last Saturday of August each year, and collectors coming to see them.
