Lavamünd () is a market town in the district of Wolfsberg (district), Wolfsberg in the Austrian state of Carinthia (state), Carinthia. The Drava#Hydroelectric power plants, Lavamünd hydroelectric power plant on the Drava River and the Soboth reservoir#Koralpe power plant, Koralpe power plant are located in or near Lavamünd. Geography Lavamünd lies in the southeast of Carinthia, close to the border with Slovenia (Carinthia (Slovenia), Slovene Carinthia). It is situated at the confluence of the Lavant (river), Lavant and Drava rivers. In the northeast, the Soboth Pass leads across the Koralpe range to Eibiswald in Styria. Lavant (river)
The Lavant () is a river in the Austrian state of Carinthia, a left tributary of the Drava. It lends its name to the ''Lavanttal'' valley as well as to the Lavanttal Alps. The river originates in the small Lake Lavant (''Lavantsee'') at the southern slope of the Zirbitzkogel mountain in Styria, at a height of . It then runs southeastwards and after reaches the border with Carinthia. The river flows down the ''Lavanttal'' valley with the towns of Bad Sankt Leonhard, Wolfsberg and Sankt Andrä, until it reaches the Drava shortly before the border to Slovenia. Koralpe
The Koralpe (, , or ), also referred to as ''Koralm'' (), is a mountain range in southern Austria which separates eastern Carinthia from southern Styria. The southern parts of the range extend into Slovenia. Running from north to south, it drains to the river Lavant in the west, and to the river Sulm in the east. Its highest elevation (2,140 meters) is the Große Speikkogel, a popular hiking destination and also a node for military radar airspace surveillance. In the south, in the Slovenian territory, it is contiguous with the Kozjak mountain range. The Koralpe consists mostly of metamorphic rock, of which some parts are of considerable interest to geologists and to collectors of semi-precious stones.
