Lauri Heikkilä
Lauri Juho Antti Heikkilä (24 June 1957 – 25 March 2024) was a Finnish politician, representing the Finns Party. He was elected to the Parliament of Finland in April 2011. He was a senior researcher and a lecturer of microelectronics at the University of Turku The University of Turku (, shortened ''UTU'') is a multidisciplinary public university with eight faculties located in the city of Turku in southwestern Finland. The university also has campuses in Rauma and Pori and research stations in Kevo ..., but he also did farming. In the 2015 parliamentary election, Heikkilä got 3,658 votes and was not re-elected. From 1996 to 2011 Heikkilä was much involved in the making of Finns Party platforms. Heikkilä died of a sudden illness during a conference trip in Strasbourg, on 25 March 2024, at the age of 66. The Parliament of Finland ( ; ) is the Unicameralism, unicameral and Parliamentary sovereignty, supreme legislature of Finland, founded on 9 May 1906. Varsinais-Suomi (; also known as Finland Proper or Southwest Finland) is one of the 13 electoral districts of the Parliament of Finland, the national legislature of Finland. Rymättylä (; ) is a former municipality of Finland. It was, together with Merimasku and Velkua, consolidated with the town of Naantali on January 1, 2009. The Finns Party ( , PS; , Sannf), formerly known as the True Finns, is a right-wing populist political party in Finland. It was founded in 1995 following the dissolution of the Finnish Rural Party. The party achieved its electoral breakthrough in the 2011 Finnish parliamentary election, when it won 19.1% of votes, becoming the third largest party in the Parliament of Finland. In the 2015 election the party got 17.7% of the votes, making it the parliament's second-largest political party. The party was in opposition for the first 20 years of its existence.
