Laurel–Burtonsville Express Line
The Laurel–Burtonsville Express Line, designated Route Z7, was an express peak hour-only bus route operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority between Silver Spring station, which is served by the Red Line of the Washington Metro, and South Laurel Park & Ride Lot in Laurel, Maryland. The line operated every 35–45 minutes during rush hours only in the peak direction with a few trips in the off-peak direction. Z7 trips were roughly 65 minutes long. This route provided service between Silver Spring and Laurel via Burtonsville by bus. Route Route Z7 operated during weekday peak hours only between Silver Spring station and South Laurel Park & Ride Lot. Silver Spring Station (Maryland)
Silver Spring station is a train station on the Red Line of the Washington Metro and the Brunswick Line of the MARC Train commuter rail system. The Metro station averaged 4,536 daily riders in 2023, making it the 19th-busiest stop in the network and the busiest in the state of Maryland. Trains travelling south from the station quickly cross the border into Washington, D.C., while northbound trains head underground and make their way further into Montgomery County. University Of Maryland Laurel Regional Hospital
University of Maryland Laurel Medical Center is a free-standing emergency care facility that also provides outpatient clinical and surgical services. Located in unincorporated Prince George's County, Maryland, near Laurel, it previously served as a community hospital. History Laurel Regional Hospital was proposed in 1972. Construction funds were approved by Prince George's County Executive Winfield M. Kelly Jr. in 1975 for a $14.5 million hospital. Flash is a bus rapid transit network in Montgomery County, Maryland with one corridor in operation and four future corridors under development. It is part of Montgomery County's Ride On (bus), Ride On bus system. Corridors 29 corridor Currently the only corridor in operation, Flash BRT service runs in two routes along U.S. Route 29 in Maryland, U.S. 29, both beginning at the Silver Spring Metrorail station and extending northeast. The Blue route makes six total stops, ending at the Burtonsville park and ride. The Orange route makes eleven total stops, ending at the Briggs Chaney park and ride. SmarTrip is a contactless stored-value smart card payment system managed by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) uses a compatible payment system called CharmCard. A reciprocity agreement between the MTA and WMATA allows either card to be used for travel on any of the participating transit systems in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area. Towne Centre at Laurel is a shopping center in Laurel, Maryland. It was built on the former site of Laurel Mall. History On August 14, 2012, the city of Laurel hosted a groundbreaking ceremony to begin destruction of the former Laurel Mall. As of October 12, 2012, all of the parking garage on the U.S. Route 1 side of the mall had been demolished, and interior demolition of the mall had begun. A Burlington Coat Factory (former Montgomery Ward) building was demolished in July 2013; it was the last remaining portion of the former mall.
