Laufey or Nál is a figure in Norse mythology and the mother of Loki. The latter is frequently mentioned by the matronymic ''Loki Laufeyjarson'' (Old Norse 'Loki Laufey's son') in the ''Poetic Edda'', rather than the expected traditional patronymic Loki ''Fárbautason'' ('son of Fárbauti'), in a mythology where kinship is usually reckoned through male ancestry. Name The meaning of the Old Norse name ''Laufey'' is not clear, but it is generally taken to be related to ''lauf'' ('leaves, foliage'), perhaps attached to the suffix -''ey'' (found in female Personal name, personal names like ''Bjargey'', ''Þórey)'', or deriving from an hypothetical tree-goddess named ''*lauf-awiaz'' ('the leafy'). Laufey is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character is depicted usually as an enemy of the Asgardian king Odin, father of Thor. He is the King of the Frost Giants, the biological father of Thor's adopted brother and archenemy, Loki. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, he first appeared in '' Journey into Mystery'' #112 (January 1965), and was based on the goddess of the same name. Laufey Lín Bīng Jónsdóttir (; zh, s=林冰, p=Lín Bīng; born 23 April 1999), known mononymously as Laufey ( ), is an Icelandic singer-songwriter and musician. She rose to prominence in the early 2020s for her success as a jazz pop, jazz-inspired pop artist. Having performed as a cello soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra at age 15, Laufey was a finalist in the 2014 edition of ''Ísland Got Talent'' (Iceland's ''Got Talent''), and a semi-finalist on ''The Voice Iceland'' the following year. Laufey Thora Ámundadóttir ( Icelandic spelling: ''Laufey Þóra Ámundadóttir''; born 1962) is an Icelandic cell biologist and geneticist who researches pancreatic cancer. She is a senior investigator in the laboratory of translational genomics at the National Cancer Institute. She was head of the division of cancer genetics at deCODE genetics from 1998 to 2007. Laufey Sigurðardóttir (born 27 January 1963) is an Icelandic former multi-sport athlete who was a member of the Iceland national teams in badminton, Iceland women's national football team, football and Iceland women's national handball team, handball. A prominent goalscorer in football, she led the Besta deild kvenna, Icelandic top-tier league in goals scored in 1983 and 1991. Football Laufey started her senior team career with Íþróttabandalag Akraness (ÍA) in 1973. She led the Icelandic top-tier league in scoring in 1983 and helped the team to back-to-back national championships in 1984 and 1985.
