Lasarte, Álava
Lasarte is a village and ''Concejo (Álava), concejo'' in the municipality of Vitoria-Gasteiz, Álava province, Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Country, Spain. History Lasarte was donated in 1135 by , bishop of Roman Catholic Diocese of Calahorra y La Calzada-Logroño, Calahorra, to the archdeacon of Armentia. During this time viticulture flourished in the area. In 1286 Sancho IV of Castile transferred Lasarte from the Brotherhood of Arriaga to the city of Vitoria. After the dissolution of the Brotherhood in 1332 the , an assembly of the third estate, held its meetings in Lasarte. Heritage The most notable building in Lasarte is the . Originally built between the late 12th and early 13th centuries, its only Romanesque architecture, Romanesque remains are the windows, the baptismal font and some interior decorations. The ''concejos'' (, ) are a type of sub-municipal administrative unit in the province of Álava, Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Country, Spain. Within the Spanish legal framework, the general name for such sub-municipal units is minor local entity (formally in also known by their acronym ). The existence of ''concejos'' in Álava is documented since the 13th century. Their current status dates from 1984, when a law providing for elections to the ''concejos'' was passed; and from 1995, when their juridical status was clarified.
