Langonnet Abbey, formally the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Langonnet (), which became the Langonnet stud farm between 1807 and 1857, is a former Cistercians, Cistercian abbey belonging to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Quimper, diocese of Quimper (now Vannes). It is located in the Gourin deanery, east of the village of Langonnet, on the road to Plouray. It now belongs to the Congrégation du Saint-Esprit. It was listed as a ''monument historique'' by decree on September 25, 1928. Its Gothic architecture, ogival-style chapter house dates back to the 13th century. History Middle age The site of the present-day abbey was probably occupied as early as the 5th century by Breton immigrants from United Kingdom, across the Channel, perhaps disciples of , but nothing remains of the original buildings. Langonnet
Langonnet () is a commune in the Morbihan department of Brittany in north-western France. Geography Langonnet is in north-west of Cornouaille, in Lower Brittany. It is one of the few Cornouaille parishes to be located in the present-day Morbihan department. Thus, the main language was Breton until the advent of intensive farming after the Second World War, at which point the population, previously bilingual, switched to French. The parish comprises two main settlements: * the actual town of Langonnet in the south * the town of La Trinité-Langonnet in north-east In the south-east is the former Langonnet Abbey (''Abbaye Notre-Dame de Langonnet''). Topography The highest point of the parish is the ''calotte Saint Joseph'', a round hill whose top is 292 meters above sea level.
