Lameroo
Lameroo is a town in the Murray Mallee region of South Australia. It is on the Mallee Highway and Pinnaroo railway line about 40 km west of the Victorian border, or 210 km east of Adelaide. It is primarily a service town for the surrounding rural areas, growing grain and sheep. Lameroo now includes the former settlements of Kulkami, Mulpata, Wirha and Gurrai, which were on the Peebinga railway line, and Wilkawatt, which was between Parrakie and Lameroo on the Pinnaroo railway. At the 2016 census, the locality of Lameroo had a population of 852 of which 562 lived in and around its town centre. The local school, the Lameroo Regional Community School is the school not only for Lameroo youth, but also surrounding towns Geranium, Parrakie and Parilla. The town is home to the Lameroo Hawks Football Club, coached by former Adelaide Crows player Rodney Maynard. Lameroo Hawks
The Mallee Football League (MFL) was an Australian rules football competition in South Australia. The league comprised teams located in south eastern South Australia and one team (Murrayville) located in western Victoria (Australia), Victoria. The football season started after Easter and ended in early September. The local newspaper ''The Border Times'' had extensive coverage of each week's results of the MFL. Coverage was also provided on WIN Television, WIN SA and Flow FM (Australia), Flow FM during the season. During the Queens Holiday Weekend, the MFL selected a team to represent the Mallee against the Riverland. The league's Best & Fairest award was called the ''Mail Medal''. Prominent players to play at a higher level include Nathan D. Brown (Melbourne FC, Australian Football League), Trent Sporn (Carlton FC), Martin Mattner (Adelaide FC) and Rodney Maynard (Adelaide FC, AFL). Rodney Maynard
Rodney "Rocket" Maynard (born 21 September 1966) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL) Early life Maynard grew up in Lameroo, South Australia, he played football for Lameroo North Football Club then attended Prince Alfred College wherein 1984 he was recruited by the Norwood Football Club. SANFL career Rodney Maynard joined his older brother Brenton at Norwood who played in the under 19s Premiership and won the best and fairest. Maynard made his SANFL debut on the 17th of March 1984 v Glenelg at age 17, however mainly played in the Reserves for the next three seasons, and was a member of the 1985 and 1986 Reserve Premiership teams alongside his brother Brenton. In 1987 Maynard became a regular member of the SANFL team, winning the most improved player award. Parilla, South Australia
__NOTOC__ Parilla is a town and a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located in the state's Murray Mallee region about east of the state capital of Adelaide, about west of the municipal seat of Pinnaroo and about east of the town of Lameroo. The government town of Parilla was proclaimed on 1 August 1907 on land in the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Parilla to the immediate north of the Parilla Railway Station. The town was named after the hundred. The boundaries for the locality were created on 12 August 1999 and includes the site of the government town of Karte which is located in its approximate centre. The 2016 Australian census which was conducted in August 2016 reports that Parilla had a population of 211. County Of Chandos
The County of Chandos is one of the 49 cadastral counties of South Australia. It was proclaimed in 1893 and named by Governor Kintore for the Duke of Buckingham and Chandos, Richard Temple-Nugent-Brydges-Chandos-Grenville who was appointed Secretary of State for the Colonies in 1867. Parrakie, South Australia
Parrakie, South Australia is a small town on the Mallee Highway and Pinnaroo railway line approximately 26 kilometres west of Lameroo. The name is derived from the Aboriginal word ''perki'' which means cave or limestone sink hole. The town was surveyed in 1907. The town is surrounded by large properties growing mostly cereal grains and livestock. There is a Lutheran Church, town hall, post office and payphone. There is also a cricket club and tennis courts on the other side of the railway line, south of the town. A primary school opened in 1910 and closed in 1964. Ngarkat, South Australia
__NOTOC__ Ngarkat is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located in the south-east of the state at the border with the state of Victoria in both the Murray Mallee and the Limestone Coast regions about south east of the state capital of Adelaide. Its boundaries were created firstly in August 1999 for the part in the Southern Mallee District Council followed by the part in the Tatiara District Council during March 2000 and finally by the part in the Coorong District Council during August 2000. Its name is derived from the Ngarkat Conservation Park. The principal land use within the locality is conservation with the majority of the land being located in the Ngarkat Conservation Park with the exception of a parcel of land between the Ngarkat Highway and the Victorian border within the Tatiara District Council. Sandalwood is a town and locality in the Australian state of South Australia located about east of the state capital of Adelaide. Mallee Highway
Mallee Highway (formerly Ouyen Highway in Victoria) is a highway in south-eastern South Australia and north-western Victoria, running mostly across the Mallee plains. It forms part of the shortest route between Adelaide and Sydney. Route Mallee Highway begins at the intersection with Dukes Highway just south-east of Tailem Bend in South Australia and runs east as a dual-lane, single-carriageway road, through cereal-growing farmland at the southern end of the Murray Mallee to Pinnaroo near the border with Victoria, where it crosses the Ngarkat and Browns Well Highways.
