Yaragudipati Venkata Mahalakshmi (born 13 December 1952), known professionally as Lakshmi, is an Indian actress known for her works primarily in all 4 Southern Indian language film industries (distributing her acting career across all four languages almost equally). She has also acted in some Hindi cinema, Hindi films. She made her debut as actress with the 1968 Tamil film ''Jeevanaamsam''. She debuted in full-fledged lead role in the same year with the Kannada cinema, Kannada film ''Goa Dalli CID 999''. She also made her debut in Telugu cinema, Telugu in the same year with the film ''Bandhavyalu''. In 1974, her debut Malayalam cinema, Malayalam film, ''Chattakkari (1974 film), Chattakari'' went on to become a blockbuster throughout India. Yaragudipati Varada Rao (30 May 1903 – 13 February 1979) was an Indian director, actor, screenwriter, and editor known for his works primarily in Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil films. Rao plunged into theatre and did a few stage plays before moving to Kolhapur and Bombay to act in silent films. Rao started his career as a lead actor in many silent films such as ''Gajendra Moksham'' (1923), ''Garuda Garvabhangam'' (1929), and ''Rose of Rajasthan'' (1931).
