Lakeside Lightning
Lakeside Lightning is an NBL1 West club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 West. The club is owned and managed by Lakeside Baptist Church. The Lightning play their home games at Lakeside Recreation Centre. Club history Background The Lakeside Lightning basketball program was established by the Lakeside Baptist Church in 1995 when teams were first entered into the junior state league, the Western Australian Basketball League (WABL). Grand final defeats (2000–2002) The Lakeside Lightning made their debut in the State Basketball League (SBL) in 2000 in the form of a men's team. The Lightning finished their inaugural season in third place on the Men's SBL's Sky Conference ladder with a 12–7 record. NBL1 West
NBL1 West, formerly the State Basketball League (SBL), is a semi-professional basketball league in Western Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition. In 2020, Basketball Western Australia partnered with the National Basketball League (NBL) to bring NBL1 to Western Australia. NBL1 replaced the former SBL to create more professional pathways and opportunities for males and females playing basketball in Western Australia. As a result, the SBL became the west conference of NBL1. History The State Basketball League originated in 1972 as the District Competition. NBL1 is a semi-professional basketball league in Australia, consisting of South, North, Central, West and East Conferences with both men's and women's competitions. 2021 NBL1 West Season
The 2021 NBL1 West season was the inaugural season of the NBL1 West. After 32 years known as the State Basketball League (SBL), the league was rebranded under the NBL1 banner for 2021. The regular season began on Friday 16 April and ended on Saturday 14 August. The finals began on Friday 20 August and concluded with the women's grand final on Friday 3 September and the men's grand final on Saturday 4 September. The NBL1 National Finals, which was set to take place in Melbourne, was cancelled on 13 August 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Alison Renee Schwagmeyer (born July 31, 1990) is an American professional basketball player for the University of Canberra Capitals of the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). She played college basketball for the Charleston Southern Buccaneers and the Quincy Hawks before playing in Germany, Australia, Romania, Spain, and Serbia. Luke Payne (born October 3, 1985) is an American former basketball player and coach. He played both guard positions during his playing days; he was a standout college player for the USC Upstate Spartans before moving to Australia and forging a successful four-year career with the Lakeside Lightning of the State Basketball League (SBL).
