Lago Merín
Lago Merín is a village and resort on the coast of Lagoon Merín, in the Cerro Largo Department of Uruguay. Although it has a very few permanent inhabitants, it is an important summer resort. In the last years it has become an important kitesurfing location. Geography It is located near the borders. Lake Merín
Lagoon Mirim (Portuguese, ) or Merín (Spanish, ) is a large estuarine lagoon which extends from southern Rio Grande do Sul state in Brazil into eastern Uruguay. Lagoa Mirim is separated from the Atlantic Ocean by a sandy, partially barren isthmus. The Jaguarão/Yaguarón, Tacuarí and Cebollatí Rivers empty into Lagoon Mirim, while the São Gonçalo Channel connects it with Lagoa dos Patos to the north. Alfredo Baldomir Ferrari (August 27, 1884 – February 25, 1948) was a Uruguayan soldier, architect and politician. He served as President of Uruguay from 1938 to 1943. Uruguay was formally neutral in World War II during his presidency, but in practice his government gave substantial support to the Allies. Background Baldomir was born in Montevideo. He entered the Military Academy in 1900 after deciding to pursue a career in the military, but his fifth-year studies were interrupted by the 1904 revolution; of which he served in various military positions.
