Dorothea Sarah Florence Alexandra, Lady Phillips (née Ortlepp; 14 June 1863 – 23 August 1940) was a South African art patroness and promoter of Indigenous peoples, indigenous culture. She was married to Lionel Phillips, Sir Lionel Phillips, 1st Baronet, a mining magnate and politician and was known by one of her middle names, Florence. Early life Florence Ortlepp was born in Cape Town in 1863, the only daughter of Albert Frederick Ortlepp, a Colesberg land surveyor and naturalist, and Sarah Walker. She received her education at Rondebosch and later in Bloemfontein. Lionel Phillips met her on the diamond-diggings and married her in 1885. They moved to Johannesburg in 1889 during the early days of the city's gold rush. She travelled extensively from 1887, but returned hurriedly to be with her husband during his trial following the Jameson Raid. Boldini - Florence, Lady Phillips
Giovanni Boldini (31 December 1842 – 11 January 1931) was an Italian Genre painting, genre and portrait painting, portrait painter who lived and worked in Paris for most of his career. According to a 1933 article in Time magazine, ''Time'' magazine, he was known as the "Master of Swish" because of his flowing style of painting. Early life Boldini was born in Ferrara, Italy on 31 December 1842. He was the son of a painter of religious subjects, and the younger brother of architect Louis Boldini, Luigi (Louis) Boldini. In 1862, he went to Florence for six years to study and pursue painting. He only infrequently attended classes at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, Academy of Fine Arts, but in Florence, met other Realism (arts), realist painters known as the Macchiaioli, who were Italian precursors to Impressionism.
