Henrietta Lacks
Henrietta Lacks (born Loretta Pleasant; August 1, 1920 – October 4, 1951) Note: Some sources report her birthday as August 2, 1920, vs. August 1, 1920. was an African-American woman whose cancer cells are the source of the HeLa cell line, the first immortalized human cell line and one of the most important cell lines in medical research. An immortalized cell line reproduces indefinitely under specific conditions, and the HeLa cell line continues to be a source of invaluable medical data to the present day. Lacks was the unwitting source of these cells from a tumor biopsied during treatment for cervical cancer at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1951. These cells were then cultured by George Otto Gey, who created the cell line known as HeLa, which is still used for medical research. Lack Township is a township that is located in Juniata County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 637 at the time of the 2020 census. History This American township was named by Irish settlers, most likely after Lack, County Fermanagh, although also possibly after Leck, of which there are several places of that name in the Province of Ulster. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of , all land. The township is located within the Ridge and Valley province of the Appalachian Mountains. Blacklog Mountain forms the northwest border of the township, and Shade Mountain runs parallel to it, to the southeast. Tuscarora Mountain forms the southeast border of the township. Lack, County Fermanagh
Lack () is a small village and townland (of 224 acres) in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, 5.5 km east-north-east of Ederny. It is situated in the Civil parishes in Ireland, civil parish of Magheraculmoney and the historic Barony (Ireland), barony of Lurg. It had a population of 111 people (50 households) in the 2011 Census. (2001 Census: 114 people). Łąck is a village in Płock County, Masovian Voivodeship, in central Poland. It is the seat of the gmina (administrative district) called Gmina Łąck. It lies approximately south-west of Płock and west of Warsaw. It is located on the western shore of Łąckie Duże Lake. The landmark of Łąck is the local palace.
