Labasa
Labasa (, ) is a town in Fiji with a population of 28,500 at the 2010 census. Labasa is located in Macuata Province, in the north-eastern part of the island of Vanua Levu, and is the largest town on the island. The town itself is located on a delta formed by three rivers – the Wailevu River, Wailevu, the Labasa River, Labasa (after which the town is named), and the Qawa River, Qawa. The township historically served the sugar cane farms and farm workers with harvesting season resulting in significant seasonal employment, although the township is now less dependent on the sugar industry. The farmers' market offers seasonal produce and seafood. The main street is lined with small family run businesses, supermarkets and restaurants offering a lively pedestrian thoroughfare. Roy Christopher Krishna (born 30 August 1987) is a Fijian professional Association football, footballer who plays as a Forward (association football)#Striker, striker and Captain (association football), captains the Fiji national football team, Fiji national team. He is the most-Cap (association football), capped and List of top international men's football goalscorers by country, highest-scoring Fijian footballer of all time. Vanua Levu
Vanua Levu (pronounced , , ), formerly known as Sandalwood Island, is the second largest island of Fiji. Located to the north of the larger Viti Levu, the island has an area of and a population of 135,961 . Geology Fiji lies in a tectonically complex area between the Australian plate and the Pacific plate. The Fiji Platform lies in a zone bordered with active extension fault lines around which most of the shallow earthquakes were centred. These fault lines are the Fiji Fracture Zone (FFZ) to the north, the 176° Extension Zone (176°E EZ) to the west, and the Hunter fracture zone (HFZ) and Lau Ridge to the east. Shivlal Nagindas
Shivlal Nagindas (born 1939) is a Fijian businessman of Indian descent, who served in 2006 as President of the Labasa Chamber of Commerce. He has also held political office as a Senator, as a Labasa Town Councillor. The Town Council elected Nagindas, a member of the Fiji Labour Party, Deputy Mayor of Labasa on 30 October 2006. His father, an immigrant from Mumbai (Bombay), India, arrived in Fiji in 1929 and established a tailoring and upholstery business in Labasa, on the northern island of Vanua Levu. The fifth of four brothers and three sisters, Nagindas left school at the age of 15 to work in the family business because of family hardships, ending his dream of becoming a lawyer. 2005 Fijian Municipal Election
Local elections were held in Fiji on 22 October 2005 to elect the councils of eleven municipalities. In Suva, the elections for the Suva City Council were postponed until 12 November 2005 due to the death of two candidates; the death of a candidate in Lautoka also resulted in the poll postponement in one of the four wards. The newly elected councils of most municipalities selected their Mayors on or before 28 October. However, Suva and Lautoka selected their Mayors in mid-November after voting was completed. The Mayoralty changed hands in six municipalities, as party political control changed hands in the Councils of Lami, Labasa, Levuka, Savusavu, and Nasinu. Vijay Chand

Macuata Province
Macuata () is one of Fiji's fourteen Provinces, and one of three based principally on the northern island of Vanua Levu, occupying the north-eastern 40 percent of the island. It has a land area of 2004 square kilometers. Northern Division, Fiji
The Northern Division is one of four Divisions into which Fiji's fourteen Provinces are grouped for local government purposes. The administrative centre of the Division, where main governmental departments are located, is Labasa. The Northern Division covers three Provinces: Macuata, Cakaudrove, and Bua, and includes the entire island of Vanua Levu. This is based on the decisions of the traditional Fijian Provinces, as well as administrative considerations. Excluding the Lau Islands, which form part of the Eastern Division, the Northern Division is coextensive with the Tovata Confederacy.
