Catalonia is (as of 2018) divided into 947 Municipalities of Spain, municipalities. Each municipality typically represents one significant urban settlement, of any size from village to city, with its surrounding land. This is not always the case, though. Many municipalities have merged as a result of rural depopulation or simply for greater efficiency. The autonomous communities () are the first-level administrative divisions of Spain, created in accordance with the Spanish Constitution of 1978, with the aim of guaranteeing limited autonomy to the nationalities and regions that make up Spain. Altafulla
Altafulla () is a Municipalities of Spain, municipality in the Comarques of Catalonia, ''comarca'' of the Tarragonès in Catalonia, Spain. The town of Altafulla has a beautifully intact old quarter crowned by the Castle of Altafulla, and an old fishing quarter dating back to the 18th century along the beach, called "Baixamar" or "Les Botigues de Mar". An additional medieval castle on a small promontory overlooking the sea, the Castle of the Josep de Suelves i de Montagut, Marquises of Tamarit (not open to the public) is often thought as part of Altafulla, but it is actually located in the neighbor municipality of Tarragona. Bonastre
Bonastre () is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of the Baix Penedès in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated in the west of the ''comarca'' in the Quadrell range. It has a population of . Bonastre became part of the Baix Penedès in the comarcal revision of 1990: previously it formed part of the Tarragonès. In 1178, Bernat de Papiol, who was lord of the place, donated it to the Monastery of St Cugat. In 1382, King Pedro IV took possession of Bonastre for the crown although the monastery continued to govern the village until the 17th century. During the Trienio Liberal Bonastre supported the royalists. In 1822, the town was attacked by a party of militia and was left deserted as its inhabitants fled to the surrounding mountains.
