Sri Lankan English (SLE) is the English language as it is used in Sri Lanka, a term dating from 1972. Sri Lankan English is principally categorised as the Standard Variety and the Nonstandard Variety, which is called as "Not Pot English". The classification of SLE as a separate dialect of English is controversial. English in Sri Lanka is spoken by approximately 23.8% of the population (2012 est.), and widely used for official and commercial purposes. Linden Reeves, better known as Stamina MC, is an English drum and bass rapper and singer. Biography His earliest experiences of MCing were on pirate radio in 1996; first Pressure FM (inactive), then on to currently active, once-pirate-but-no-longer station Rinse FM. In 2000, he met DJ Marky, DJ Patife and XRS Land, through being given a trial opportunity to perform at Movement, a weekly drum & bass event in London. He is best known for providing vocals for two successful Drum & Bass tracks entitled " LK" by DJ Marky and XRS Land (released 8 July 2002 on V Recordings) and "Barcelona" by D. Kay and Epsilon (released 11 August 2003 on BC Authorised/ BMG). These tracks achieved UK chart positions of #17 and #14 respectively. Marco Antonio da Silva, known professionally as DJ Marky, is a Brazilian drum and bass DJ. Together with DJ Patife, XRS Land and Drumagick, Brazilians were forging a new sound in drum and bass that became popular around the world with releases such as '' LK'' and ''Só Tinha Que Ser Com Você''. Career Marky got started in drum and bass in 1992, but by 1997, he went to London and met DJ Hype and Goldie. He was brought to the attention of the English DJ Bryan Gee, head of V Recordings, who saw Marky playing in a club in São Paulo in 1998. He invited the DJ to play in London. Drum and bass (commonly abbreviated as DnB, D&B, or D'n'B) is a genre of electronic dance music characterised by fast Break (music)#Breakbeat (element of music), breakbeats (typically 165–185 Tempo, beats per minute) with heavy Bass (music), bass and sub-bass lines, Sampling (music), samples, and synthesizers. "LK (Carolina Carol Bela)", sometimes referred to as "It's the Way", is a 2002 drum and bass song by DJ Marky, XRS, and Stamina MC which reached No. 17 on the UK Singles Chart. It has been described as "seminal" by ''NME'', and samples Toquinho & Jorge Ben's "Carolina Carol Bela". Piri & Tommy have performed it in concert and cited it as an inspiration for their 2024 EP ''About Dancing''. DJ Marky version "LK" was produced in 2002 in XRS's studio after DJ Marky gave up on recreating the sound of Ed Rush and Optical's "Wormhole". "LK" was originally an instrumental, and samples vocals and guitar from Toquinho and Jorge Ben's "Carolina Carol Bela", the B-side of "Que Maravilha".
