Kungsholmen (borough)
Kungsholmen (''King's Islet'') is a borough (''stadsdelsområde'') in central Stockholm, Sweden. It is named after the dominating district and island in the borough. Except Kungsholmen (proper) there are six districts in the borough: Fredhäll, Kristineberg, Lilla Essingen, Marieberg, Stadshagen and Stora Essingen. It is also equivalent to the parishes of Kungsholm, Sankt Göran and Essinge. The population is 54,283, of which 28,614 are female and 25,669 are male, on an area of 4.85 km², which gives a density of 10,977.73 per km². Boroughs Of Stockholm
Municipalities in Sweden are in some rare cases divided into smaller districts (sometimes translated ''boroughs'') or urban districts, and are sometimes assigned administrative boards responsible for certain areas of governance in their respective areas. These districts are not specified by national Swedish law, but rather are created by individual municipalities, and thus the Swedish names of these districts vary greatly from municipality to municipality, including kommundelar, stadsdelar, stadsdelområden, primärområden, or stadsdelsnämndsområden. The degree of administrative autonomy of these districts similarly varies greatly, but is normally very limited. On 1 January 2016 a new form of division of Sweden was introduced. Södermalm
Södermalm, often shortened to just Söder, is a district and island in central Stockholm. Overview The district covers the large island of the same name (formerly called ''Åsön''). Although Södermalm usually is considered an island, water to both its north and south does not flow freely but passes through locks. Södermalm is connected to its surrounding areas by a number of bridges. It connects to Gamla stan to the north by Slussen, a grid of road and rail and a lock that separates the lake Mälaren from the Baltic Sea, to Långholmen to the northwest by one of the city's larger bridges, Västerbron, to the islet Reimersholme to the west, to Liljeholmen to the southwest by the bridge Liljeholmsbron, to Årsta by Årstabron and Skansbron, to Johanneshov by Johanneshovsbron and Skanstullsbron to the south, and, finally, to Södra Hammarbyhamnen to the east by Danvikstull Bridge. Stockholm City Hall
Stockholm City Hall ( sv, Stockholms stadshus, ''Stadshuset'' locally) is the seat of Stockholm Municipality in Stockholm, Sweden. It stands on the eastern tip of Kungsholmen island, next to Riddarfjärden's northern shore and facing the islands of Riddarholmen and Södermalm. It houses offices and conference rooms as well as ceremonial halls. It is the venue of the Nobel Prize banquet and is one of Stockholm's major tourist attractions. Stockholm City Centre (''Stockholms innerstad'', ''Innerstaden'', ''Inre staden'') is in Stockholm Municipality, also known as the City of Stockholm, part of the Stockholm urban area in Sweden. Lilla Essingen
Lilla Essingen is a small island in central Stockholm, Sweden. It is located on Lake Mälaren next to the larger neighbouring island of Stora Essingen. Both Essingen Islands (''Essingeöarna'') are mainly residential areas, the smaller densely packed with apartment buildings while the larger is scattered with private houses and, to a lesser extent, apartment buildings. The Essingeleden motorway, part of the European routes E4 and E20, passing over both islands is named after them. Marieberg, Stockholm
Marieberg is a district located on the island of Kungsholmen in Stockholm City Centre, Sweden. Marieberg is part of the Borough of Kungsholmen. It is located west of Fridhemsgatan/Riddarfjärden, south of Drottningholmsvägen and east of Essingeleden/Viktor Rydbergs gata. In the south Marieberg borders the Mariebergsfjärden. History Marieberg has its name after the Marieberg ''malmgård'' (suburban manor), which was erected in the 1640s on the shores of Lake Mälaren for the ''Riksråd'' Bengt Skytte. He named the farm after his daughter Maria, the wife of the Master of the Horse Gustav Adam Banér. Of this first settlement, only Triewald's ''malmgård'' is preserved today, which is called ''Mangården'' on Petrus Tillaeus' map from 1733 and may be identical to Marieberg's ''malmgård''. Stadshagen is a district in Stockholm Municipality in Stockholm, Sweden. Location Stadshagen is located in the northwest part of the island of Kungsholmen. Stadshagen borders the districts of Kungsholmen through Lilla Västerbron, Marieberg and Igeldammsgatan; Kristineberg through Lindhagensgatan; Marieberg through part of Rålambshovsleden and to Huvudsta in Solna municipality through the Karlbergskanalen.
