Kristaps Porziņģis
Kristaps Porziņģis (; born 2 August 1995) is a Latvian professional basketball player for the Washington Wizards of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is one of the tallest active players in the NBA, standing at tall, and plays both the power forward and center positions. Born in Liepāja, Porziņģis began his professional career with Sevilla in 2012. Porziņģis quickly rose through the team's youth ranks and became the figurehead of the senior team by 2013. He subsequently won the EuroCup Basketball Rising Star award in 2015, where, at age 19, he became the youngest ever recipient of the award. Kristaps Zommers (born 7 January 1997) is a Latvian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for SK Super Nova. Club career As a youth player, Zommers joined the youth academy of Aarhus Gymnastikforening in Denmark. He started his career with Parma. In the 2015-16 Serie D, Kristaps made 25 appearances and kept 17 clean sheets. Local journalists were deterred by the fact that he cannot speak Italian fluently so his interviews were conducted in English. Kristaps Valters (born September 18, 1981) is a Latvian former professional basketball player. After retiring he became a coach, and is currently working as a head coach for Valmiera/ORDO. Playing career Valters first played professionally in 1998, for ASK/Brocēni/LMT. In 2000, Valters signed his first foreign contract, with Antalya Büyükşehir Belediyesi, but played there only one season. He then returned to the Latvian Basketball League, signing a two-year contract with the newly created team Skonto. In 2003, he played in the NBA Summer League for the Cleveland Cavaliers alongside number #1 pick in that draft LeBron James. In the fall of that year, he returned to Europe and played for Panionios. Kristaps Gulbis (born 26 July 1967) is a Latvian sculptor and artist known for numerous contemporary art projects in more than 25 countries. His works have been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, the Museum of Modern Art in Hokaido, Japan, and at metropolitan sites in London, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Riga, Moscow and other European cities, as well as in New York, Seoul, and Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The visual art projects curated, directed and managed by Gulbis have been set in England, Hungary, Germany, Latvia, Estonia and elsewhere in Europe. Kristaps Janičenoks (born March 14, 1983) is a Latvian professional basketball player who currently plays for VEF Rīga. He also plays for the Latvian national basketball team. Playing career Janičenoks first gained attention as a high scoring teenager at the 1999 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship. He was the second leading overall scorer at the tournament, averaging 23.5 points per game and was named to All-Tournament Team. Shortly thereafter, he started his career in Latvian Basketball League with Brocēni. In 2001, after finishing high-school in Latvia he received multiple offers from NCAA D1 schools, choosing George Washington as the place where he will play. Kristaps Zvejnieks
Kristaps Zvejnieks (born 15 February 1992 in Riga) is an Alpine ski racer and inline Alpine slalom racer from Latvia. He competed for Latvia at the 2010 Winter Olympics. He competed in slalom and giant slalom and his best result was a 37th place in the slalom. He competes in FIS, CIT, EC and WC levels. He had his first World Cup start in Schladming on 24 January 2012. Alpine skiing career He was born to Jana Zvejniece and Raivo Zvejnieks in Riga, Latvia, and grew up there. The closest ski area was in Sigulda, 60 km from his house. Kristaps Helmanis (german: Christopher Hellmann, russian: Христофор Иванович Гельман; 3 June 1848 – 2 March 1892) was a Latvian vaccinologist and microbiologist. He discovered tuberculin simultaneously with Robert Koch and mallein together with Oto Kalniņš (1891). Biography Helmanis was born on 3 June 1848 in Tērvete (then ''Hofzumberge'', Courland Governorate), received education at the parish school and Jelgava Real School (''Jelgavas reālskola''). He studied veterinary medicine at the Dorpat Veterinary Institute (''Kaiserliche Veterinair-Institut zu Dorpat'', 1873—1877) and received a gold medal for his work “On Development of Spermatozoids of Vertebrates”. Kristaps Grebis (born 13 December 1980 in Liepāja) is a retired Latvian footballer. Club career Grebis started his professional career in 2000 with FK Liepājas Metalurgs. Making 7 appearances and scoring one goal in his first season, he later had a short spell with FK Rīga, returning to Liepāja in 2002. This time playing there for 4 straight years, in 2006 he left for Oxford United. Grebis had his contract with Oxford United cancelled by mutual consent in March 2007, as this period of his career wasn't the best. Later on he joined FK Ventspils, but in 2008 came back to his home land team Liepājas Metalurgs. He played there for two years, until 2008, making 63 appearances and scoring 48 goals.
