Krestovsky Island
Krestovsky Island (russian: Крестовский остров) is a 3.4 km2 island in Saint Petersburg, Russia, between several tributaries of the Neva: the Srednyaya Nevka, the Malaya Nevka and the Krestovka. The island is served by the Krestovsky Ostrov station of Saint Petersburg Metro. Until recently, the western part of the island was occupied by the Maritime Victory Park, where the international Goodwill Games of sports and athletics competition took place in 1994, which was the first large scale post-Soviet Union international event in Russia. A new stadium, Gazprom Arena, is located where Kirov Stadium was. The stadium serves as home for FC Zenit Saint Petersburg. Belosselsky-Belozersky Family
The Belosselsky-Belozersky princely and Rurikid family is an aristocratic Russian family that descends in a direct male line from the Earliest Kievan Rus rulers and later of the medieval sovereigns of the Principality of Beloozero. Origins The family of Belosselsky-Belozersky claims the descendance directly from the first Russian Princes, from the "Kiev Rus" period and specifically from Prince Rurik (of Swedish roots), who created their seat in Kiev around the years 870–890. The family traces its patrimonic, father-to-son roots throughout the ruling houses of Russia until the mid 16th century, to Yuri Dolgoruky (founder of Moscow) and his grandsons who were grand-dukes/princes of Kiev as well as of Vladimir-Suzdal principality. Grand Duke Boris Vladimirovich of Russia (russian: Борис Владимирович; 24 November 1877 – 9 November 1943) was a son of Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich of Russia, a grandson of Tsar Alexander II of Russia and a first cousin of Tsar Nicholas II. Charles Hardinge, 1st Baron Hardinge of Penshurst, (20 June 1858 – 2 August 1944) was a British diplomat and statesman who served as Viceroy and Governor-General of India from 1910 to 1916. Background and education Hardinge was the second son of Charles Hardinge, 2nd Viscount Hardinge, and the grandson of Henry Hardinge, 1st Viscount Hardinge, a former Governor-General of India. Prince (Knyaz) Sergei Konstantinovich Belosselsky-Belozersky (russian: Сергей Константинович Белосельский-Белозерский) (1867–1951) was a Russian aristocrat, general and member of the International Olympic Committee. Early life Prince Sergei was a member of the Belosselsky-Belozersky family and was in 1916 one of the largest landowners in Russia. He was the son of general Konstantin Esperovich Belosselsky-Belozersky (1843–1920) and the former Nadezhna Dmitrovna Skobeleva (1847–1820), the sister of general Mikhail Skobelev. Prince Constantine Esperovich Beloselsky-Belozersky ( 1843 – 26 May 1920, Neuilly-sur-Seine) was a Russian general, landowner and horse breeder. Biography He was born on 16 June 1843 to Prince Esper Alexandrovitch Beloselsky-Belozersky and Elena Pavlovna Bibikova (1812–1888). He received education at home and entered into service in the Chevalier Guard Regiment on 9 December 1861. Beloselsky-Belozersky held the ranks of Lt. Col. Army (1882), Colonel (1884), Major-General (1894), Lieutenant-General (1906) and Adjutant General (1906). In 1866-1868 he served as adjutant chief of police.
