Breaker Morant
Harry "The Breaker" Harbord Morant (born Edwin Henry Murrant, 9 December 1864 – 27 February 1902), more popularly known as Breaker Morant, was an Anglo-Australian drover, horseman, bush poet, military officer, and war criminal who was convicted and executed for murdering six prisoners-of-war (POWs) and three captured civilians in two separate incidents during the Second Anglo-Boer War. While serving as a lieutenant with the Bushveldt Carbineers, Morant was arrested and court-martialled for committing murder on active serviceone of the first such prosecutions in British military history. According to military prosecutors, Morant retaliated for the death in combat of his commanding officer with a series of revenge killings against both Boer POWs and many civilian residents of the Northern Transvaal. ''Who Do You Think You Are?'' is an Australian television documentary reality genealogy series, part of the international franchise and an adaptation of the original British series on BBC of the same name, airing on SBS. The Australian Writers' Guild (AWG) is the professional association for Australian performance writers for film, television, radio, theatre, video and new media. The AWG was established in 1962. The AWG is a member of the Australian Council of Trade Unions. The AWG gives writers a political voice by lobbying government on such issues as copyright protection and the provision of support for film and theatre funding bodies and the ABC and protecting Australian content. Kit Denton Fellowship
The Kit Denton Fellowship is an Australian literary award given annually by the Australian Writers' Guild (AWG). It is presented to a writer who shows courage and excellence in performance writing. The winner receives $25,000 AUD to support them in their writing work and assist them in developing a marketable script. The award is named after Kit Denton, a lifetime member of the AWG, well known as a script writer, author, poet and lyricist. He wrote the international best selling novel, ''The Breaker'', about the life and death of Breaker Morant. Kit Denton was the father of TV personality, Andrew Denton. In 2011, the fellowship was relaunched as the Kit Denton Disfellowship.
