Kiran Arunasalam
Kiran Arunasalam (born 1 June 1995) is an Australian field hockey player who plays as a forward. Life and career Arunasalam was born on 1 June 1995 in Melbourne to Malaysian Indian parents who migrated from Malaysia to Australia in the 1980s. His family traces back its roots to the Indian town of Tirupattur, Tamil Nadu. He picked up the sport at the age of four. Arunasalam was first selected in the Australian junior team in 2015. He was part of the Australian squad that won the 2016 Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia. He was also part of the national team that finished fourth at the 2016 Men's Hockey Junior World Cup in India. He made his senior team debut in 2017. Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. Australia Men's National Field Hockey Team
The Australia men's national field hockey team (nicknamed the Kookaburras) is one of the nation's most successful top-level sporting teams. They are the only Australian team in any sport to receive medals at six straight Summer Olympic Games (1992–2012). The 2016 Sultan of Johor Cup was the sixth edition of the Sultan of Johor Cup. It was held in Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia from 31 October – 6 November 2016. 2016 Men's Hockey Junior World Cup
The 2016 Men's Hockey Junior World Cup was the 11th edition of the Hockey Junior World Cup for men, an international field hockey tournament. It was held in Lucknow, India from 8–18 December 2016. A total of sixteen teams competed for the title. Host nation India won the tournament for the second time after defeating Belgium 2–1 in the final. Germany won the third-place match by defeating Australia 3–0. Qualification Each continental federation got a number of quotas depending on the FIH World Rankings for teams qualified through their junior continental championships.
