Kerang Railway Station
Kerang railway station is located on the Piangil railway line, Piangil line in Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia. It serves the town of Kerang, and it opened on 25 October 1884.Kerang Vicsig History Kerang opened on 25 October 1884. On 30 May 1890, the line was extended to Swan Hill railway station, Swan Hill. The station, like the township itself, was named after an Australian Aboriginal languages, Aboriginal word meaning moon or an edible root vegetable. Kerang was once the junction station of the former railway lines to Stony Crossing railway line, Stony Crossing and Kerang–Koondrook Tramway, Koondrook, both closing in 1961 and 1976 respectively. Public Transport Victoria
Public Transport Victoria (PTV) is the brand name for public transport in the Australian state of Victoria, Australia, Victoria. It was the trading name of the Go Public Transport Development Authority (PTDA), a now-defunct statutory authority in Victoria, responsible for providing, coordinating, and promoting public transport. The PTV began operating on 2 April 2012, taking over many of the responsibilities previously exercised by the Director of Public Transport and the Department of Transport (Victoria, 2008–13), Department of Transport. It also took over the marketing of public transport in Victoria from Metlink and Metlink#Viclink, Viclink, as well as responsibility for the myki ticketing system, formerly handled by the Transport Ticketing Authority. Kerang–Koondrook Tramway
The Kerang–Koondrook Tramway was an Australian private railway of broad gauge, running from Kerang station, on the state-owned Victorian Railways Piangil railway line, to the Murray River town of Koondrook, with intermediate stations at Yeoburn, Hinksons, Teal Point and Gannawarra. Construction of the -long line was initiated by the Shire of Swan Hill in 1887, under the terms of the Tramways in Country Districts Act 1886, which allowed local governments in country areas to construct tramways, with financial assistance from the Victorian government, to a limit of £2,000 a mile. Mildura Railway Station
Mildura was the passenger terminus for the Mildura railway line in Victoria, Australia. Located in the city of Mildura it is located on the eastern side of the town centre, alongside the Murray River. Although there has not been a passenger rail service since 1993, the Victorian Labor Government promised to return the service in 1999. History Agitation for a railway to Mildura commenced as far back as 1888, but it was not until 1898 that the Victorian Parliament recommended the extension of the Ultima line to Mildura, however this was overturned and the line Woomelang extended north instead. The turning of the first sod at the station site was held in November 1901, by October 1903 rails had been laid up to Mildura, the official opening being on 13 November. Between 1922 and 1928 a railmotor service operated between Red Cliffs and Mildura stations to serve local passengers. Swan Hill V/Line Rail Service
The Piangil railway line is a 5 ft 3 in gauge (1600 mm) railway line in north-western Victoria, Australia. It branches off the Deniliquin line just north of Bendigo, and runs in a north-westerly direction through Pyramid Hill and Kerang to the border town of Swan Hill, then roughly parallels the New South Wales border to Piangil and Yungera. The line is now open only as far as Piangil, and passenger services only operate to Swan Hill. History The line was opened from its junction with the Deniliquin line, just north of Bendigo, to Raywood in 1882. It was progressively extended to Mitiamo in 1883, Pyramid and Kerang in 1884, and Swan Hill in 1890. The line from Swan Hill was extended to Piangil in 1915, Kooloonong in 1920, and Yungera in 1926. The section from Kooloonong to Yungera was closed in 1957, and from Piangil to Kooloonong in 1981.
