Karsten Jakobsen
Karsten Jakobsen (15 July 1928 – 8 January 2019) was a Norwegian engineer. He was a professor and rector (1990–1993) at the Norwegian Institute of Technology, and was the first rector of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in 1996. Career Jakobsen was born in Sandefjord. He graduated as dr.ing. from the Norwegian Institute of Technology, and was appointed professor in mechanical engineering at the Norwegian Institute of Technology in 1982. He was decorated Knight of the Order of St. Olav in 2002. Sandefjord
Sandefjord () is a city and the most populous municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. The municipality of Sandefjord was established on 1 January 1838. The municipality of Sandar was merged into Sandefjord on 1 January 1969. On 1 January 2017, rural municipalities of Andebu and Stokke were merged into Sandefjord as part of a nationwide municipal reform. This merger was the first one to take place during the reform. Emil Spjøtvoll
Emil Oskar Spjøtvoll (21 July 1940 – 4 March 2002) was a Norwegian mathematician and statistician. Spjøtvoll was born in Hemne. He finished his secondary education in 1959 at Trondheim Cathedral School, took the cand.mag. degree at the University of Oslo in 1962 and then the cand.real. degree in 1964. Spjøtvoll lectured at the university from 1965 to 1968, and in 1968 he took the dr.philos. degree with the thesis ''A Mixed Model in the Analysis of Variance. Optimal Properties''. He was a guest scholar at University of California, Berkeley and the University of Wisconsin, Madison from 1968 to 1970, then docent at the University of Oslo. From 1973 to 1983 he was a professor at the Norwegian College of Agriculture. Spjøtvoll had guest scholarships in Paris (1980–1981) and Zürich (1982–1983). Order Of Saint Olav
The Royal Norwegian Order of Saint Olav ( no, Den Kongelige Norske Sankt Olavs Orden; or ''Sanct Olafs Orden'', the old Norwegian name) is a Norwegian order of chivalry instituted by King Oscar I on 21 August 1847. It is named after King Olav II, known to posterity as St. Olav. Just before the union with Sweden was dissolved in 1905, the Order of the Norwegian Lion was instituted in 1904 by King Oscar II, but no appointments were awarded by his successor, King Haakon VII. The Order of St. Olav thus became the kingdom's only order of chivalry for the next 80 years. The Grand Master of the order is the reigning monarch of Norway. It is used to reward individuals for remarkable accomplishments on behalf of the country and humanity. Since 1985, appointments to the order has only been conferred upon Norwegian citizens, though foreign heads of state and royalty may be appointed as a matter of courtesy.
