The Kamov Ka-60 ''Kasatka'' (russian: ":ru:Касатка, Касатка", ("Killer Whale") is a Russian medium twin-turbine military military transport aircraft, transport helicopter under development by Kamov. It performed its first flight on 24 December 1998. The civil version is known as Kamov Ka-62. Design The Ka-60 has an estimated local military market of 200 units (Army aviation units, Border Service of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, Border Police and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (Russia), Ministry of Internal Affairs). The Ka-60 is to be used for aerial reconnaissance, for transporting Air assault, air-assault forces, radio-electronic jamming, for Special operations, special-operations missions and for various light-transport missions. Variations for foreign sale are expected. Manufacture is to take place at Ulan-Ude. The Safran Ardiden is a turboshaft designed and produced by Safran Helicopter Engines for single and twin-engine helicopters. Launched in 2003 as a more powerful TM 333, it first ran in 2005 and was introduced in 2007. The JSC Klimov (or Joint Stock Company Klimov) presently manufactures internationally certified gas turbine engines, main gearboxes and accessory drive gearboxes for transport aircraft. JSC Kamov (russian: Камов) is a Russian rotorcraft manufacturing company based in Lyubertsy, Russia. The Kamov Design Bureau ( design office prefix Ka) has more recently specialised in compact helicopters with coaxial rotors, suitable for naval service and high-speed operations. History Kamov was founded by Nikolai Ilyich Kamov, who started building his first rotary-winged aircraft in 1929, together with N. K. Skrzhinskii. Up to 1940, the year of Kamov plant establishment, they created many autogyros, including the TsAGI A-7-3, the only armed autogyro to see (limited) combat action. The General Electric T700 and CT7 are a family of turboshaft and turboprop engines in the class. Design and development In 1967, General Electric began work on a new turboshaft engine demonstrator designated the "GE12" in response to US Army interest in a next-generation utility helicopter. The GE12 was designed and conceived by GE's Art Adamson and Art Adinolfi. In 1967, both GE and Pratt & Whitney were awarded contracts to work parallel with each other to design, fabricate, and test the technology.
