Křižíkova (Prague Metro)
Křižíkova () is a Prague Metro station on Line B in the Prague district of Karlín. The station was opened on 22 November 1990 as part of the extension from Florenc to Českomoravská. It was severely damaged in the 2002 floods, but was re-opened after being restored the following year. The eponymous street adjacent to the station was named after František Křižík František Křižík (; 8 July 1847 – 22 January 1941) was a Czech inventor, electrical engineer and entrepreneur. The Prague Metro () is the rapid transit network of Prague, Czech Republic. Karlín
Karlín () is a cadastral area of Prague, part of Prague 8 municipal district, formerly an independent town (which became part of Prague in 1922). It is bordered by the river Vltava and Holešovice to the north, Vítkov hill and Žižkov to the south, New Town to the west and Libeň to the east. Florenc () is a major interchange station on the Prague Metro system, located beneath the busy Florenc intersection. It serves as a transfer point between Line B and Line C, each with its own platform and structural design. The station opened in 1974 for Line C (then known as ''Sokolovská'' until 1990), and in 1985 for Line B. Českomoravská (Prague Metro)
Českomoravská () is a Prague Metro List of Prague metro stations, station on Line B (Prague Metro), Line B. It was opened on 22 November 1990 as the eastern terminus of the extension from Florenc (Prague Metro), Florenc. It is under Drahobejlova street in Libeň. Českomoravská remained a terminal station until the extension of Line B to Černý Most on 8 November 1998. The station was built using the tunnel boring machine, TBM method and has a railway platform, platform below ground level. There is one exit through an escalator tunnel. An adjacent bus station serves as a terminal for some urban and suburban lines in the northeast of Prague. 2002 European Floods
In August 2002, a week of intense rainfall produced flooding across a large portion of Europe. It reached the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, Austria, Germany, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Ukraine and Russia. The event killed 232 people and left (US$27.115 billion) in damage. The flood was of a magnitude expected to occur roughly once a century. Flood heights unknown since St. Mary Magdalene's flood were recorded. Development Flooding resulted from the passage of two Genoa low pressure systems (named Hanne and Ilse by the Free University of Berlin) which brought warm moist air from the Mediterranean northwards. The effects of El Niño may have contributed. The floods gradually moved eastwards along the Danube, although the damage in the large cities on its shores was not as severe as in the areas affected by the floods later. Invalidovna
Invalidovna (French ''"hôtel des invalides"'') is a building in Karlín, a district of Prague, Czech Republic. History Invalidovna was built in 1731–1737 as a dormitory for war invalids (veterans) by Kilian Ignac Dientzenhofer. Its model was Les Invalides, a building for veterans inaugurated in Paris in 1679. Only a ninth of the original design was ever completed. At most, about 1,200 inmates lived there. In 1935, all inhabitants moved to another "invalidovna", at Hořice, and the building was used by the Czech army. After this, it was used as an army archive. The building was damaged by a large flood in 2002, and most of the archive materials were destroyed. The building currently awaits reconstruction. One possible future use is as an open space for culture and social life.
