Turkish Red Crescent
The Turkish Red Crescent () is the Turkish affiliate of the International Red Crescent and the first worldwide adopter of the crescent symbol for humanitarian aid. Being the largest humanitarian foundation in Turkey, its roots goes back to the Crimean War from 1853 to 1856 and the Russo-Turkish War from 1876 to 1878, where disease overshadowed battle as the main cause of death and suffering among Turkish soldiers. Operating to this day as a not-for-profit volunteer-based social service, it is considered one of the most important charity organizations in the Muslim world. History The organization was founded under the Ottoman Empire on 11 June 1868 and was named "Hilâl-i Ahmer Cemiyeti" (Society of the Crimson Crescent), or in French the "Croissant-Rouge Ottomane" (Ottoman Red Crescent). Kızılay, Ankara
Kızılay is the city center of Ankara Province in the municipality and district of Çankaya District, Çankaya, Turkey. Turkey Civil Administration Departments Inventory. Retrieved 22 May 2023. Its population is 1,311 (2022). It is named after the Kızılay Derneği (Turkish Red Crescent) whose former headquarters was located at the Kızılay Square. Güvenpark in Kızılay is the center park and a common meeting location which occasionally serves the population as a recreational area. Ankara Metro, Ankaray and the bus stops nearby, provide easy access to other parts of the city.
