Körber European Science Prize
The Körber European Science Prize is a science and technology award, presented annually by the Körber Foundation in Hamburg, honoring outstanding scientists working in Europe for their promising research projects. The prize is endowed with 1 million euro (until 2018: 750,000 euro) and promotes research projects in the life sciences and physical sciences. History The prize was initiated by the entrepreneur Kurt A. Körber with the help of Reimar Lüst, the president of the Max Planck Society. The first award was in 1985. At first, European research teams were honored, but since 2005, only individuals qualify. Selection process Candidates for the prize need not be from Europe, but they must be living in Europe. Renowned scientists from all over Europe, grouped into two Search Committees, select promising candidates. The awards are annual and alternate between the life and physical sciences. Olli V
Olli is a Dutch children's book character and a stuffed toy. The character Olli was created in 2004 by Dutch designer and film director Hein Mevissen along with writer Diederiekje Bok as a character for a bottled mineral water. Olli was one of the many characters used on the packages and posters of the bottled water brand and John's Phone. Olli was launched at a party of MTV In Rotterdam in 2004. In 2013, Olli was again part of a campaign, this time to save the Rotterdam Zoo Diergaarde Blijdorp. Olli is part of the Ollimania family which is the company that created and owns all characters. After the launch, Olli became the symbol of Rotterdam and a mascot for professional football club Feyenoord. On 10 September 2015, Ollimania and its creators Hein Mevissen and Diederiekje Bok donated a huge Olli statue to the Sophia children's hospital in Rotterdam. Dirk Inzé
Dirk Inzé (born 19 October 1957) is a Belgian molecular biologist and professor at Ghent University (Ghent, Belgium). In 2002, he succeeded Marc Zabeau as scientific director of the VIB-UGent Center for Plant Systems Biology. His research interest is on the molecular networks underpinning yield and organ growth both under standard as well as mild drought stress conditions in Arabidopsis and the C4 crop maize. He is a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO). He was recipient of the 1994 Körber European Science Prize. Friedrich Moritz Christian Pfeiffer (22 July 1815 – 12 April 1879) was a German jurist and politician. Biography Early life and education Pfeiffer was the son of the Hessian lawyer and politician Franz Georg Pfeiffer (11 January 1784 – 15 April 1856) and his wife Susanne (Susette) Friederike (née Lagisse, 6 April 1787 - 23 May 1861). His family was prominent in Hesse, beginning with his grandfather Johann Jakob Pfeiffer, Marburg University professor and dean, and personal religious tutor to the Elector of Hesse. Klaus Ferdinand Hasselmann
Klaus Ferdinand Hasselmann (; born 25 October 1931) is a German oceanographer and climate modeller. He is Professor Emeritus at the University of Hamburg and former Director of the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology. He was awarded the 2021 Nobel Prize in Physics jointly with Syukuro Manabe and Giorgio Parisi. Hasselmann grew up in Welwyn Garden City, England and returned to Hamburg in 1949 to attend university. Bert Rickard Johannes Bolin (; 15 May 1925 – 30 December 2007) was a Swedish meteorologist who served as the first chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), from 1988 to 1997. Lennart Bengtsson (born 5 July 1935) is a Swedish meteorologist. His research interests include climate sensitivity, extreme events, climate variability and climate predictability.
