Kåfjord is a small village in Nordkapp Municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. It is located on the Porsanger Peninsula, along the Kåfjorden, an arm of the main Porsangerfjorden. Before the completion of the North Cape Tunnel on the European route E69 highway in June 1999, Kåfjord was the southern terminus of the ferry route between the mainland and the town of Honningsvåg on the island of Magerøya or is a large island in Finnmark county, in the extreme northern part of Norway. The Porsanger Peninsula () is a peninsula in Finnmark county, Norway. The large peninsula sits between the Altafjorden and the Porsangerfjorden and includes parts of the municipalities of Alta Municipality, Alta, Hammerfest Municipality, Hammerfest, Måsøy Municipality, Måsøy, Nordkapp Municipality, Nordkapp, and Porsanger Municipality, Porsanger. Stabbursdalen National Park lies on the southern end of the peninsula. The landscape of the Porsanger peninsula consists mainly of a treeless plain, a continuation of the Finnmarksvidda plateau to the south. Magerøya
or is a large island in Finnmark county, in the extreme northern part of Norway. The island lies along the Barents Sea in Nordkapp Municipality, just north of the Porsanger Peninsula. The mouth of Porsangerfjorden lies off the east coast of the island. Magerøya has an area of and the highest elevation on the island is the mountain Gråkallfjellet. The most northern point on the island is also the northernmost point in Norway outside of Svalbard and Bjørnøya: Knivskjellodden. The island features a bleak, barren, tundra-covered landscape devoid of any trees (except for a few small pockets of mountain birch), with steep cliffs along the coast, and dramatic mountainscapes in the interior. Honningsvåg is the northernmost cities and towns, northernmost city/town in mainland Norway. It is located in Nordkapp Municipality in Finnmark county. Honningsvåg was declared a city in 1996, despite its small population. The town has a population of 2,245 (2023), which gives the town a population density of . Honningsvåg is situated at a bay on the southeastern side of the large island of Magerøya, while the famous North Cape, Norway, North Cape and its visitor center are on the northern side of the island. European route E69 is an European Route, E-road between Olderfjord and North Cape, Norway, North Cape in northern Norway. The road is long. It contains five tunnels, totalling . North Cape Tunnel
North Cape Tunnel () is one of the longest and the northernmost of the subsea road tunnels in Norway. It is located in Nordkapp Municipality in Finnmark county in the far northern part of Norway. The tunnel takes the European route E69 highway under the Magerøysundet strait between the Norwegian mainland and the large island of Magerøya. The tunnel was built between 1993 and 1999, along with the Honningsvåg Tunnel. The tunnels were built to connect the mainland of Norway with the town of Honningsvåg and the tourist attraction at the North Cape. The tunnel was officially opened on 15 June 1999 by King Harald V of Norway.
