Kuçovë Aerodrome
Kuçovë Air Base is an air base located near Kuçovë, Berat County, Berat, Albania. The base was built in 1952 by People's Socialist Republic of Albania and entered service in 1955. NATO and Albania government renovated the Air Base in 2024 in the context of the ongoing NATO expansion into Eastern Europe. History Construction of the air base began in 1952 and was completed in 1955. During Albanian Unrest of 1997, the 1997 crisis, Kuçovë Air Base was captured by rebels. The damage caused by the protesters was not repaired until 1999. From 2002 to 2004 the base was renovated to NATO standards. Improvements included a new control tower, new lighting, and repaving. In 2004, Albania announced plans to scrap 80 obsolete aircraft in an effort to modernize for NATO membership. Kuçovë
Kuçovë ( sq-definite, Kuçova) is a municipality in south-central Albania. It was formed at the 2015 local government reform by the merger of the former municipalities Kozare, Kuçovë, Lumas and Perondi, which all became municipal units. The seat of the municipality is the town of Kuçovë. The total population is 31,077 as of the 2023 census, in a total area of . The population of the municipal unit as of the 2023 census is 12,629. The Shenyang J-6 (wikt:歼, Chinese: 歼-6; designated F-6 for export versions; NATO reporting name: Farmer) is the Chinese version of the Soviet Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-19, MiG-19 'Farmer' fighter, the world's first mass-produced supersonic aircraft. The Shenyang J-5 ( Chinese: 歼-5) (NATO reporting name ''Fresco'') is a Chinese-built single-seat jet interceptor and fighter aircraft derived from the Soviet Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17. The J-5 was exported as the F-5 and was originally designated Dongfeng-101 (East Wind-101) and also Type 56 before being designated J-5 in 1964. The MiG-17 was license-built in China and Poland into the 1960s. The People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) obtained a number of Soviet-built MiG-17 Fresco-A day fighters, designated J-4 in the early 1950s.
