Kuwait University (, abbreviated as Kuniv) is a public university located in Kuwait City, Kuwait. History Kuwait University (KU), (in Arabic: جامعة الكويت), was established in October 1966 under Act N. 29/1966. The university was officially inaugurated on 27 November 1966 to include the College of Science, the College of Arts, the College of Education and the College for Women. The State of Kuwait, located at the head of the Persian Gulf, supports an educational policy that seeks to provide an opportunity to all children, irrespective of their social class, including children with special needs. Kuwait was ranked 63rd on the Human Development Index report for 2011 by the United Nations Development Programme, placing Kuwait above the regional average. According to 2017 data from UNESCO, the literacy rate stood at 96.3% for Kuwaitis aged 25–64, compared to 80% across the MENA region. In 2017 99.9% of Kuwaitis aged, 15–24 were literate, while the MENA average was 89.6% in 2016. Moreover, according to World Bank statistics from 2015, among Kuwaitis 15 and older, females have caught up to and surpassed their male peers on this metric of educational attainment, which stands, for the respective sexes, at 99.4% and 96.4%. Baqer Al-Najjar
Baqer Salman Al-Najjer (, born 1953) is a Bahraini sociology professor, politician, author, and columnist. He serves as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Sociological Association. Early life and education Al-Najjar was born in 1953. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Kuwait University in 1976. His postgraduate diploma was from Alexandria University. In 1983, he earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology from Durham University. Career Al-Najjar worked as a research coordinator in Kuwait for the Joint Program Production Corporation of the Gulf Cooperation Council. He has been a professor of sociology at the University of Bahrain since 1984, once headed the Department of Social Sciences, and served as Dean of the College of Arts there from 1995 to 1999. Adailiya ( ) is an area and a suburb of Kuwait City; it is located in the Capital Governorate in Kuwait. It had a population of 21,996 in 2022. Adailiya houses a campus of Kuwait's Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) and, temporarily, the colleges of Architecture and Life Sciences at Kuwait University as well as the Kazma Sport Club and religious, cultural, and commercial places. Shuwaikh () is a seaside district of Kuwait City in Kuwait. It comprises eight blocks. Shuwaikh also has an industrial area, the nation's key port that shares the district's name, a commercial area, a healthcare area and an education area; all of which form their own census-designated districts. Area The area of Shuwaikh is partly industrial and partly rural. It includes Souq al-Juma, which is a Friday market that sells furniture, clothes, new and used goods, and much more. Next to the Souq al-Juma is an animal market that has been criticized for the extensive animal abuse committed by the sellers of the animals.
