Kurt Metzger
Kurt Metzger (born May 24, 1977) is an American stand-up comedian, writer and actor. He won an Emmy Award and a Peabody Award for his work on the television series ''Inside Amy Schumer''. Early life Metzger was raised in Toms River, New Jersey. He was raised as a Jehovah's Witness and became an ordained minister at the age of 17; he left the faith at about the age of 21, around the time he started doing stand-up. As a child, he enjoyed watching ''An Evening at the Improv'' and ''Comic Strip Live''; he was also a fan of The Amazing Jonathan and Jeff Dunham in his youth. Career Metzger first performed stand-up at The Stress Factory in New Brunswick, New Jersey, although he mainly performed in the Philadelphia area during his early career; he then moved on to perform in the comedy clubs of New York City. Observational Comedy
Observational comedy is a form of humor based on the commonplace aspects of everyday life. It is one of the main types of humor in stand-up comedy. In an observational comedy act, the comedian makes an observation about something which is common enough to be familiar to their audience, but not commonly discussed. Such observations are typically presented with the phrase "Have you ever noticed...?" or "Did you ever notice...?" which has become a comedy cliché. Analysis British comedians Richard Herring and Jo Caulfield wrote in an article that observational comedy relies upon the fact that the observation is "universally familiar" but that it "won't necessarily have been consciously noted by your audience", arguing that the statements can be neither too obvious nor too obscure. ''Inside Amy Schumer'' is an American sketch comedy television series created and hosted by Amy Schumer. The series aired on Comedy Central from April 30, 2013 to June 16, 2016 and was revived in 2022 for a new season on Paramount+. Schumer and Daniel Powell serve as the show's executive producers. The show received a Peabody Award and has been nominated for eight Primetime Emmy Awards, winning two. ''Inside Amy Schumer'' completed its second season on June 3, 2014, and was renewed for a third season a week later. The Stress Factory
The Stress Factory is a stand-up comedy club chain owned by comedian Vinnie Brand. The clubs are in New Brunswick, New Jersey and Bridgeport, Connecticut. Incidents Greg Giraldo's final performance On September 24, 2010, Greg Giraldo performed his last comedy stand-up routine at the New Brunswick club, and was scheduled to perform the following Saturday and Sunday as well. However, the next day, Giraldo overdosed on prescription pills in his New Jersey hotel room, and then, all the other shows were cancelled. ''Comic Strip Live'' was a weekly, late-night, hour-long stand-up comedy showcase that aired on the Fox network from 1989 to 1994. It started as a local show at Igby's comedy club, originally hosted by John Mulrooney and filmed at the club. Jamie Masada, owner of the Laugh Factory, proposed that they take the show national; Fox agreed, and moved the show to the Laugh Factory in Hollywood.
