Kuortane is a municipality of Finland. It is located in the South Ostrobothnia region. The municipality has a population of () and covers an area of of which is water. The population density is . The neighboring municipalities of Kuortane are Alajärvi, Alavus, Lapua and Seinäjoki. The municipality is unilingually Finnish. Kuortane has a notable history of pine tar production. It is currently well known for the Kuortaneen urheilulukio, a sports institute (Olympic Training centre) and training facility overseen by the Finnish Olympic Committee where many young Finnish athletes study and train. Both the women's national under-18 ice hockey team and Team Kuortane of the Naisten Liiga are based at the institute. Team Kuortane
Team Kuortane is an ice hockey team in the Auroraliiga, the premier women's hockey league in Finland. They are based at the Kuortaneen urheilulukio in Kuortane, a small town in South Ostrobothnia, and play at the (). The team was founded by the Finnish Ice Hockey Association in 2010 as part of its initiative to develop the ice hockey skills of young women in Finland. Since its creation, approximately half of all Finland women's national under-18 ice hockey team, national under-18 team rosters have been filled by players from Team Kuortane. South Ostrobothnia ( ; ) is one of the 19 regions of Finland. It borders the regions of Ostrobothnia, Central Ostrobothnia, Central Finland, Pirkanmaa, and Satakunta. Kuortaneen lukio ja urheilulukio or the Kuortane Lukio and Sports Academy is a general and sports-specialised , or school, in Kuortane, Finland. The is the national premier league for women's ice hockey in Finland. Reino Ala-Kulju
Reino Ala-Kulju (25 April 1898 – 5 August 1983) was a Finnish Lutheran clergyman, secondary school teacher and politician, born in Kuortane. He was a member of the Parliament of Finland, representing the Patriotic People's Movement (IKL) from 1933 to 1939 and the National Coalition Party from 1952 to 1954 and from 1959 to 1966. Eveliina Ala-Kulju was his mother. Civil war Ala-Kulju participated in the disarmament of the Russians carried out by the Lapua Protectorate in January 1918. He participated in the Finnish Civil War in the ranks of the Whites and was involved in the battles of Vilppula, Ruovesi, Länkipohja and Orivesi. Ala-Kulju served as a group leader in the capture of Tampere, Lahti, Kouvola and Vyborg. He was wounded on March 18, 1918 in Oripohja.
