Provinces Of Finland
Between 1634 and 2009, Finland was administered as several provinces ( fi, Suomen läänit, sv, Finlands län). Finland had always been a unitary state: the provincial authorities were part of the central government's executive branch and apart from Åland, the provinces had little autonomy. There were never any elected provincial parliaments in continental Finland. The system was initially created in 1634. Its makeup was changed drastically on 1 September 1997, when the number of the provinces was reduced from twelve to six. This effectively made them purely administrative units, as linguistic and cultural boundaries no longer followed the borders of the provinces. The provinces were eventually abolished at the end of 2009. Consequently, different ministries may subdivide their areal organization differently. Besides the former provinces, the municipalities of Finland form the fundamental subdivisions of the country. In current use are the regions of Finland, a smaller subdi ...

Kuokkala Bridge
Kuokkala Bridge ( fi, Kuokkalan silta) is a bridge in Jyväskylä, Finland over the lake Jyväsjärvi. When the city of Jyväskylä expanded into Kuokkala, the eastern part of the town, it was deemed necessary to link the city centre to the new neighbourhood through a new bridge. During the summer of 1977, three main options were considered: a continuation at the bottom of Vaasankatu to Kylmänoro, and two different paths from the southernmost edge of Lutakko, to Ainola and Peltoniemi. The last of these options was chosen on 26 September 1977 by the city council. The design work started in 1979, the main concern being the muddy lake bottom. The city council approved the new bridge, an arch joining the tip of Lutakko to Peltoniemi in Kuokkala, on 11 April 1983. Work started on the bridge on 15 October 1987. The bridge was built from both directions, with the two sides joining on 12 September 1988. The bridge was officially named "Kuokkalan silta" on 11 September 1989, following a ...

Lake Jyväsjärvi () is a lake situated in the centre of Jyväskylä in Finland. The lake can be also considered as the Northern end of Lake Päijänne. Parts of Jyväsjärvi have been filled many times to gain more land for the enlarging city of Jyväskylä. Mattilanniemi and Ylistö, two campuses of the University of Jyväskylä are situated on the Southern shores of the lake. Two bridges are crossing the lake connecting Ylistönrinne and Kuokkala neighbourhoods to the city centre. The harbour of Jyväskylä is situated next to the Kuokkala bridge.
