Kungsträdgården Southbound Platform
Kungsträdgården ( Swedish for "King's Garden") is a park in central Stockholm, Sweden. It is colloquially known as ''Kungsan''. The park's central location and its outdoor cafés makes it one of the most popular hangouts and meeting places in Stockholm. It also hosts open-air concerts and events in summer, while offering an ice rink, Opening hours and some more information. during winters. There is also a number of cafés, art galleries and restaurants; for example Galleri Doktor Glas, a name taken from the novel ''Doctor Glas'' by Hjalmar Söderberg published in 1905. The park is divided into four distinct spaces (south to north): (1) Square of Charles XII; (2) Molin's Fountain; (3); Square of Charles XIII and (4) "Fountain of Wolodarski" (which does not have an official name). Strömbron
Strömbron ( Swedish: "The Stream Bridge") is a viaduct in central Stockholm, Sweden. Stretching over Norrström, it is connecting the old city Gamla stan to the northern-central district Norrmalm, or, more specifically, to Blasieholmen near the park Kungsträdgården. History Though initially put forward by the influential city planner Albert Lindhagen (1823–1887) in 1866, a bridge on the current location was never included in any of his district-level city plans. In 1874 however, the Building Society of Stockholm (''Stockholms byggnadsförening'') required permission to construct a toll-financed bridge stretching from the northern end of Skeppsbron to connect directly to Stallgatan, thus with a more eastern course than the present bridge. Helgo Zettervall
Helgo Nikolaus Zettervall, older spelling ''Zetterwall'', (21 November 1831 – 17 March 1907) was a Swedish architect and professor of the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts. He is best known for his drastic restorations of churches and other buildings around Sweden. Biography Zettervall was born at Lidköping in Västra Götaland County, Sweden. He attended the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts where he studied under Fredrik Wilhelm Scholander (1816–1881) and graduated during 1860. In 1862, he conducted a study trip to 1862 made a trip to Germany, France and Italy. After completing his studies Zettervall took over the restoration of Lund Cathedral from Carl Georg Brunius. Zettervall got the job after several more experienced architects had declined the job due to fear of Brunius. Fredrik Wilhelm Scholander
Fredrik Wilhelm Scholander (June 23, 1816 – May 9, 1881) was a Swedish architect and artist. Biography Fredrik Wilhelm Scholander was born in Stockholm, Sweden. He was the son of Georg Fredrik Scholander (1785–1825) and Karin Nyström (1786 -1866). His mother was the sister of architect Per Axel Nyström (1793–1868). He became fatherless at the age of nine, and his uncle then became his foster father. Scholander studied art in 1831 at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts. He settled in Paris during 1841, where for almost two years he was a student of Louis-Hippolyte Lebas (1782–1867) at École des Beaux-Arts. He was called in 1847 as vice-professor and became a full professor of architecture at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts in 1848. He trained many members of the next generation of Swedish architects, among them Helgo Zettervall (1831–1907) and Isak Gustaf Clason (1856–1930). Stockholm Synagogue
The Great Synagogue of Stockholm (, ) is a Conservative Jewish congregation and synagogue, located at 3A Wahrendorffsgatan, close to the park Kungsträdgården on Norrmalm, in Stockholm, Sweden. The synagogue was designed by Fredrik Wilhelm Scholander in the Moorish Revival style and completed in 1870. The synagogue was classified as a listed building in 1991. History It was built 1867-1870 according to designs made in 1862 by the architect Fredrik Wilhelm Scholander. The building has been called a "paraphrase over Oriental motifs", and it is listed in the Swedish registry of national historical buildings.
