Kuldämblik
''Kuldämblik'' (The Golden Spider) is a 1930 Estonian musical film directed by Boris Jaanikosk and produced by Konstantin Märska, who was also the cinematographer. The screenplay was written by Hendrik Saar under the pseudonym ''Kivilombi Ints''. ''Kuldämblik'' was Estonia's first film with recorded sound. Speech and singing for the film were recorded on 78 rpm records that could be played in the cinema. Olga Torokoff-Tiedeberg and sing in the film. The bar scenes, which make up the main part of the plot, as well as the advertising for alcohol and tobacco consumption, caused the conservative Estonian Ministry of Education to take action. The film received a warning from the authorities that it was not suitable for young people. The ban on viewers under 16 years of age deterred many cinema owners from including the film in their programs. The short film premiered on March 16, 1930. Boris Jaanikosk
Boris Jaanikosk (born Boris Jankovski, later Boris Borissoff; June 16, 1897 – June 1, 1976) was an Estonian film actor and film director. Life and work Boris Jaanikosk was born Boris Jankovski and later Estonianized his family name to Jaanikosk. In 1929, Jaanikosk played one of the leading roles in the Estonian film production ''Jüri Rumm'', directed by Johannes Loop. The film premiered in December 1929. In 1930, he directed the first musical film in Estonian film history. The short film ''Kuldämblik'' (The Golden Spider), for which he also wrote the screenplay, was also the first Estonian sound film. The black-and-white film is considered lost. In the 1950s, Boris Jaanikosk worked as an editor for the Soviet Estonian newsreel ''Filmikroonika''. Hendrik Saar
Hendrik Saar (pseudonyms Kivilombi Ints and Sulgnokk; March 8, 1893 – 1944) was an Estonian journalist, caricaturist, playwright, and clown. Early life Saar was born in Laatre parish in the Põhja-Ruhja district of Valmiera County. He was the son of Villem Saar (1850–?) and Ann Saar (née Ilves, 1865–1954). Career In addition to working as a journalist, cartoonist, playwright, and clown, Saar also performed as a cathedral singer and stage actor. He translated operetta texts and theater jokes, and he staged his own plays. In 1919, together with Gori, he started publishing the humor magazine . Estonian Film Database
The Estonian Film Database (, abbreviated EFIS) is an electronic film database launched online in 2012. Its purpose is to thoroughly describe Estonian film heritage, to collect film information about Estonian films, their producers, content, themes, types and genres, directors, actors, and so on, and to make available as much information as possible related to these films and the Estonian film industry. The descriptions of the films are detailed with keywords, which makes it possible to search for information based on various content. The database was made public on December 12, 2012. As of the beginning of 2017, the database contained more than 16,200 full and partial records of films made in Estonia since 1912.
