Kuldip Singh Sahota, Baron Sahota
Kuldip Singh Sahota, Baron Sahota (born 2 May 1951), is a British Labour Party politician and life peer. Sahota was born in India of Sikh Punjabi heritage, the son of a foundry worker who emigrated to England in 1957; he joined his father in 1966. Sahota worked for 15 years at the factory of GKN Sankey in Telford before going into full-time political work and going into private business. Sahota, who had been active in his trade union at work in industry, was elected as a Labour councillor for Malinslee and Dawley Bank on Telford and Wrekin Council, serving from 2001 to 2023. He served as the leader of the council between 2011 and 2016. Sahota stood as the Labour Party candidate for Telford at the 2017 general election, losing to Conservative incumbent Lucy Allan by a narrow margin of 720 votes. Philip Martin Dunne (born 14 August 1958) is a British politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ludlow constituency in Shropshire from 2005 to 2024. He is a member of the Conservative Party. He has been a farmer since 1987, at his family's farm in Herefordshire, at Leintwardine. He was elected in 2001 as a councillor on the South Shropshire District Council, of which he was the Conservative leader in 2003–2005. He was also secretary of the Ludlow Conservative Association for a year in 2001. The Jallianwala Bagh massacre (), also known as the Amritsar massacre, took place on 13 April 1919. A large crowd had gathered at the Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, Punjab, British India, during the annual Baisakhi fair to protest against the Rowlatt Act and the arrest of pro-Indian independence activists Saifuddin Kitchlew and Satyapal. In response to the public gathering, the temporary brigadier general R. E. H. Dyer surrounded the people with his Gurkha and Sikh infantry regiments of the British Indian Army. The Jallianwala Bagh could only be exited on one side, as its other three sides were enclosed by buildings. After blocking the exit with his troops, Dyer ordered them to shoot at the crowd, continuing to fire even as the protestors tried to flee. Ketley is a large village and civil parish in the borough of Telford and Wrekin of Shropshire, England. It is located between the outlying towns of Oakengates, Telford and Wellington.
