Krujë Watchtower
The Watchtower of Krujë () is a monument of Cultural Monument of Albania, cultural heritage located in Krujë, Albania. It was first recognized as a cultural heritage site by the National Institute of Cultural Heritage (Albania), Institute of Sciences through decision no. 95 on October 16, 1948. Subsequent designations were made by the rectorate of the University of Tirana, State University of Tirana under decision no. 6 on January 15, 1963, and by the Ministry of Culture (Albania), Ministry of Education and Culture via reference no. 1886 on June 10, 1973. History The Fortress of Krujë, situated on a rocky ridge, separated from the mountain of the same name and the nearby hill formations, is a fortress with notable architectural features. At its highest point, a small section was constructed to serve as a fortified redoubt and the seat of the feudal lord. Watchtower
A watchtower or guardtower (also spelt watch tower, guard tower) is a type of military/paramilitary or policiary tower used for guarding an area. Sometimes fortified, and armed with heavy weaponry, especially historically, the structures are built in areas of established control. These include military bases, cities occupied by military forces, prisons and more. A common equipment is searchlights. It differs from a regular tower in that its primary use is military/policiary and from a turret in that it is usually a freestanding structure. Its main purpose is to provide a high, safe place from which a sentinel or guard may observe the surrounding area. In some cases, non-military towers, such as religious towers, may also be used as watchtowers.
