Track and field (or athletics in British English) is a sport that includes Competition#Sports, athletic contests based on running, jumping, and throwing skills. 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships – Women's Triple Jump
The women's triple jump at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships took place on March 19, 2016. The first round of jumps were mostly disappointments to these 14 meter jumpers as Keturah Orji was the only one to break that barrier with 14.13. Four more athletes broke 14 in the second round, with Paraskevi Papachristou barely taking the lead with 14.15 and doing a dance to celebrate. The lead lasted barely 2 minutes before newcomer Yulimar Rojas popped 14.41. That jump stood up as the winner of the competition, neither Rojas or Panturoiu could find the board for the rest of their attempts. Kristin Gierisch edged into second place with a fourth round 14.16, then confirmed her silver medal with a 14.30 in the fifth round. As the Olympics go to South America for the first time, Rojas joins Caterine Ibargüen as South American athletes at the top of world championships in this event. 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships
The 16th IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics were held between March 17 and 20, 2016 in Portland, Oregon, United States. The event did not feature Russia. Following a WADA investigation into widespread and institutional doping practices in Russian athletics, the IAAF provisionally suspended Russia's membership of the organisation in November 2015, effectively excluding the country both from hosting events and entering competitions. The women's triple jump at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Beijing National Stadium on 22 and 24 August. The returning champion Caterine Ibargüen looked like the favorite, the most consistent jumper year round. The world leader was the returning silver medalist Ekaterina Koneva and even her world leading jump lost the competition to a wind aided jump by Ibargüen. The Olympic Champion Olga Rypakova had beaten Ibargüen both in the Olympics and at the 2011 World Championships, but not in the last three years. Gabriela Petrova took the early lead with her first jump 14.52. Former Ukrainian Hanna Knyazyeva-Minenko made a big improvement to her own National Record of her new country Israel with a 14.78. The 2015 IAAF World Championships ( zh, 第十五届世界田径锦标赛), the fifteenth edition of the IAAF World Championships, were held from 22 to 30 August at the National Stadium in Beijing, China. Forty-three nations won medals, 144 of which were awarded. Kenya topped the medal table for the first time, with 7 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze medals. The United States won 18 medals, six gold, six silver and six bronze, which was the highest tally.
