Kristian Hellström
Kristian Hellström (24 July 1880 – 14 June 1946) was a Swedish middle-distance runner and a sports administrator. He competed at the 1906 Intercalated Games in the 800 m and 1500 m events and finished in fifth and third place, respectively. At the 1908 Summer Olympics, he failed to reach the final of the 800 m event. Nationally, he won the 1500 m title in 1900 and 1901 and the 10,000 m title in 1902. He was also the German champion for the 1500 m in 1905. Hellström was a prolific sports administrator who founded his first sports club, ''IF Sleipner Stockholm'', in 1897 at age 17. In 1901, he launched the first cross-country race in Sweden. In 1912, Hellström became Secretary-General of the Organizing Committee of the Stockholm Olympics. He was also a founding member of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), becoming its first Secretary-General from 1913 to 1914. Athletics At The 1906 Intercalated Games
At the 1906 Summer Olympics in Athens, 21 competitive events in athletics were held. A total of 65 medals (21 gold, 23 silver, 21 bronze) were awarded. Now called the ''Intercalated Games'', the 1906 Games are no longer considered as an official Olympic Games by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The marathon distance was 41.775 km according to a contemporary Greek newspaper. The pentathlon event in the 1906 Games consisted of a standing long jump, discus throw (ancient style), javelin throw, 192 metre run, and a Greco-Roman wrestling match. 1908 Summer Olympics
The 1908 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the IV Olympiad and also known as London 1908) were an international multi-sport event held in London, England, from 27 April to 31 October 1908. The 1908 Games were originally scheduled to be held in Rome, but were relocated on financial grounds following the violent eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 1906, which claimed over 100 lives; Rome eventually hosted the Games in 1960. These were the fourth chronological modern Summer Olympics in keeping with the now-accepted four-year cycle as opposed to the alternate four-year cycle of the proposed Intercalated Games. Ivo Fairbairn-Crawford
Ivo Frank Fairbairn-Crawford (born Ivo Frank Fairbairn Crawford; 20 December 1884 – 24 August 1959) was a British/Irish middle-distance runner. He competed at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. Biography Fairbairn-Crawford was educated at Felsted School and became the National 880 yards champion after winning the AAA Championships title at the 1907 AAA Championships. At the 1908 Olympic Games, represented Great Britain at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London, and competed in the 800 metres; Crawford won his heat in the first round easily, with a time of 1:57.8. He was disqualified in the final, however. Crawford also won his first round heat in the 1500 metres event. He placed fifth in the final with a time of 4:07.6.
