Nedre Telemark District Court () is a district court (Norway), district court located in Telemark county, Norway. This court is based in Skien (town), Skien. The court is subordinate to the Agder Court of Appeal. The court serves lower (coastal) Telemark county which includes the municipalities of Bamble Municipality, Bamble, Drangedal Municipality, Drangedal, Kragerø Municipality, Kragerø, Nome Municipality, Nome, Porsgrunn Municipality, Porsgrunn, Siljan Municipality, Siljan, and Skien Municipality, Skien. The court is led by a chief judge () and several other judges. The court is a court of first instance. Its judicial duties are mainly to settle criminal cases and to resolve civil litigation as well as bankruptcy. The administration and registration tasks of the court include death registration, issuing certain certificates, performing duties of a notary public, and officiating civil wedding ceremonies. Nedre Telemark
Grenland is a traditional district in Telemark county, in the south-east of Norway. "Grenland" has referred to varying locations throughout history. In modern times, Grenland refers to the areas of the municipalities of Skien, Porsgrunn, Bamble, and Siljan. Sometimes the municipalities Kragerø and Drangedal are also considered to be part of the area. The region encompasses and has 122,978 inhabitants (2004), which translates as 12% of the area and 64% of the population of Telemark. Grenland is the core area of a slightly larger traditional district known as Nedre Telemark ("Lower Telemark") which includes all of Grenland plus Midt-Telemark Municipality and the Heddal area of Notodden Municipality.
