Kowree Naracoorte Football League
The Kowree Naracoorte Football League was an Australian rules football competition based around Naracoorte, South Australia and the Shire of Kowree, Kowree region of Victoria (state), Victoria. History Prior to the Kowree Naracoorte Football League, Naracoorte had a team in the South Eastern Football Association which was based in Mount Gambier, South Australia, Mount Gambier however this competition declined and the Naracoorte side split into Naracoorte North and South. This saw the Naracoorte Football Association revived for 1935 but it was short lived as the next year Lucindale left to the Southern Ports Football League leaving Kybybolite, North and South Naracoorte to join the Kowree Football Association based around Edenhope, Victoria. After a successful 1936 season it was suggested that the league would be renamed the Kowree Naracoorte Football League. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an Australian rules football playing field, oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Penola ( ) is a town in the Australian state of South Australia located about southeast of the state capital of Adelaide in the wine growing area known as the Coonawarra. At the 2021 Australian Census, the town of Penola had a population of 1,376. It is known as the central location in the life of Mary MacKillop (St Mary of the Cross), the first Australian to gain Roman Catholic sainthood, in 2010. In 1866 McKillop and a Catholic priest and geologist, Julian Tenison-Woods, established a Catholic school in the town. Padthaway ( ) is a small town in the Australian state of South Australia located in the state's south-east within the Limestone Coast region about south east of the state capital of Adelaide and about south-east of the municipal seat of Bordertown. The name is derived from the Potawurutj, the Aboriginal name word for ''cover'' or ''bury''. Lucindale is a small town in the south-east of South Australia. The town is located south east of the state capital, Adelaide. At the 2006 census, Lucindale had a population of 301. The town is best known for hosting the annual South East Field Days, attracting over 26,000 visitors every March. History The town was proclaimed on 25 January 1877. It was named after Lady Jeannie Lucinda Musgrave—the wife of the Governor of South Australia, Anthony Musgrave. Kybybolite
Kybybolite is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located in the state's south-east within the Limestone Coast region on the border with the state of Victoria about south east of the state capital of Adelaide and about north-east of the municipal seat of Naracoorte. The state government established a research farm at Kybybolite in 1905. This has included orchards, poultry, pigs, dairy and beef cattle, sheep, pasture, hay and silage production. The historic Kybybolite house on the farm is listed on the South Australian Heritage Register. The railway closed on 12 April 1995 with the last train from Mount Gambier to Keswick passing through that Wednesday afternoon. The school operated from 1907 to 1998, teaching a total of 854 students. The school library was dedicated to Jim Paroissien, who had been head teacher from 1930 to 1940, but was killed in action in World War 2 over Malta.
