History Ngaoundere kingdom erected an outpost for slave raids in Koundé before the colonization era. In 1896, the French established a post in Koundé. Koundé was the capital of Baboua Sub-prefecture from 1896 to 1907, when the capital was moved to Baboua. On 19 March 2019, suspected 3R rebels assassinated the mayor of Koundé and his son. The next day, a clash between 3R and village self-defense group ensued during the mayor's funeral. One 3R rebel member died during the clash. Baboua, Central African Republic
Baboua is a town and an administrative area (sub-prefecture) located within the prefecture of Nana-Mambéré in the Central African Republic (CAR), approximately north-west of Bangui, the nation's capital. The town is located on the CAR's border with Cameroon, and is across the border from the Cameroonian town of Garoua-Boulaï. Baboua is home to the Evangelical Lutheran Seminary and Lutheran Bible School. Tongo Lutheran Church is also located in Baboua. History Since around 2013 Baboua area had been under control of FDPC armed group. On 16 July 2015 multiple people including major, sub-prefect and priest were kidnapped by FDPC in Baboua. Return, Reclamation, Rehabilitation (abbreviated 3R, ) is a rebel group in the northwestern part of Central African Republic. The group was formed in December 2015 to protect Fulani herders from Anti-balaka militia attacks.Amnesty InternationalCENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC 2017/2018 The group has launched attacks on numerous towns, killed unarmed civilians and UN peacekeepers, and carried out several kidnappings. Their former leader, Sidiki Abass, was sanctioned in 2020 by the United States government, and members of the group have been sentenced by the Central African Republic's Special Criminal Court. Besson is a village located in Nana-Mambéré Prefecture, Central African Republic. It is the capital of Gaudrot Commune. Peuhl herders from Chad and Cameroon often visit Besson.
