Kymenlaakso
Kymenlaakso (; ; "Kymi River, Kymi/Kymmene Valley") is a Regions of Finland, region in Finland. It borders the regions of Uusimaa, Päijät-Häme, Southern Savonia, South Savo and South Karelia and Russia (Leningrad Oblast). Its name means literally ''The Valley of River Kymijoki, Kymi''. Kymijoki is one of the biggest rivers in Finland with a drainage basin with 11% of the area of Finland. Port of Hamina-Kotka (Finnish language, Finnish ''Hamina-Kotkan satama'') is a major seaport in Kotka and Hamina in Kymenlaakso, Finland, on the northern shore of Gulf of Finland. After its creation by merging the ports of Kotka and Hamina in 2011, the Port of Hamina-Kotka has become Finland's biggest port. Kymi River
The Kymi (, ) is a river in Finland. It begins at Lake Päijänne, flows through the provinces of Päijänne Tavastia, Uusimaa and Kymenlaakso, and discharges into the Gulf of Finland. The river passes the towns of Heinola and Kouvola. The town of Kotka is located on the river delta. The length of the river is , but its drainage basin of extends to almost inside the Tavastia, Central Finland, Savonia and Ostrobothnia. Haapasaari (Kotka)
Haapasaari (; ) is an island and a former municipality of Finland in the former Kymi Province, now in the Kymenlaakso region. It was consolidated with the town of Kotka in 1974. It was the only insular municipality in the Gulf of Finland that was not ceded to the Soviet Union. The other insular municipalities were Suursaari, Tytärsaari, Lavansaari and Seiskari. Geography The Haapasaari municipality consisted entirely of islands with no road connection. As the name of an area, ''Haapasaari'' also refers to the former municipality's territory. The largest island was not Haapasaari itself, instead Vanhankylänmaa was the largest. Finnish National Road 7
Finnish national road 7 (; ) is a highway in Finland. It runs from Erottaja in Helsinki to the Russian frontier at the Vaalimaa border crossing point in Virolahti. The road is long. The road is also European route E18 and it is a part of TERN. Route The route of the road is Helsinki – Vantaa – Porvoo – Loviisa – Kotka – Hamina – Vaalimaa (Russian border). With the section of motorway between Loviisa and Kotka opened to traffic in September 2014, the route from Helsinki to Hamina is now a continuous motorway. After completion of the motorway section bypassing the town of Hamina, due in late 2014, of the highway's total length of will be motorway. There is a plan to extend the motorway from its current endpoint in Lelu, Hamina to Vaalimaa by 2018, finalizing the motorway link between Helsinki and the Russian border; construction is due to begin in late 2015. The Gulf of Finland (; ; ; ) is the easternmost arm of the Baltic Sea.
