Kossuth County () is a County (United States), county in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, the population was 14,828. The county seat is Algona, Iowa, Algona. History Kossuth County was founded on January 15, 1851. It was named after Lajos Kossuth, Regent-President of Hungarian State, Hungary who went into exile to America following the Hungarian Revolution of 1848, war of independence of Kingdom of Hungary (1526–1867), Hungary from the Habsburg Dynasty. The county was enlarged northward in 1857 by the inclusion of the former Bancroft County, Iowa, Bancroft County. Crocker County, Iowa, Crocker County was another county created out of the same area of Kossuth County as Bancroft County but was reverted due to not being larger than . Another attempt to create a new county called Larrabee County, Iowa, Larrabee County failed in 1914. Kossuth County Courthouse (Iowa)
The Kossuth County Courthouse is located in Algona, Iowa, United States. It is the third courthouse the county has used for court functions and county administration. For the first eleven years of the county's existence its government was housed in various buildings in Algona. Its first stand alone courthouse was a frame structure completed in 1867. An Italianate architecture, Italianate-style building with a high tower replaced it in 1874. A grand jury indicted several members of the board of supervisors alleging that construction bids were not given to the lowest bidders and non-courthouse funds were used in its construction. They were all found not guilty. After several grand jury inspections in the 1930s the building was labeled a fire hazard. A bond referendum to build a new courthouse passed on September 9, 1947, but the high cost of materials prevented construction at that time. Emmet County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 9,388. The county seat is Estherville. History Emmet County was created by authority of the Iowa Legislature in 1851. Enough settlers had been established in the area to organize the county in 1859. It was named for Jean-Baptiste Faribault, a settler and French fur trader among the Sioux Indians. Geography Faribault County lies on the south side of Minnesota.
