Korsør County
Korsør is a town in Zealand, Denmark. It is located in Slagelse Municipality. Until 2007 Korsør was the seat of Korsør Municipality. The town is located west of Slagelse, north-west of Skælskør and connects to Nyborg through the Great Belt Bridge. Formerly the main ferry port from Zealand to Funen, the town of Korsør is divided into two halves by the Korsør Nor inlet, with the northern part named Halsskov. Most of the historical southern part of Korsør (Korsør proper) is low-lying and prone to flooding. Culture The Korsør Biograf Teater, which opened in August , is the world's oldest movie theater in continuous use that is still operating. Tårnborg 1895
Tårnborg (or Taarnborg), from 1671 until 1841 known as Dyrehavegaard, is a former manor house in Korsør, Slagelse Municipality, Denmark. The buildings are now part of Hotel Comwell Grand Park. The Neoclassical main building from 1803 and the manager's house () from 1843 were listed on the Danish registry of protected buildings and places in 1982. History Origins Tårnborg was originally the name of a small fortified town whose fortifications were most likely constructed by Svend Grathe in the middle of the 12th century. After Grathe's death, Tårnborg Castle was part of Valdemar I's crown land but lost its military importance when Korsør Castle was built. Morten Storm (born January 2, 1976, in Korsør), alias Murad Storm and Murad Storm Al-Denmarki, is a Danish, former convert to Islam and a former Islamic radical, who became disenchanted with Islamism after 10 years and went to work as an agent of the Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET) operating in Islamic militant circles. John Dyrby Paulsen (born 12 July 1963) is a Danish politician. He is a member of the party Social Democrats, and is the current mayor of Slagelse Municipality. Hedda Lundh (1921–2012) was a Danish journalist and schoolteacher who, under the German occupation of Denmark in World War II, was a Danish resistance fighter. Based at the time in Aarhus, she is remembered as a railway saboteur, explosives expert and courier in the resistance movement. Aage Friis
Aage Friis (16 August 1870 – 5 October 1949) was a Danish historian and professor at the University of Copenhagen. Biography Aage Friis was born in Korsør in Slagelse, Denmark. He was the son of Johan Frederik Friis (1833-1910) and Juliane Marie Landkilde (1832-1911). His father was a parish priest who also taught his children together with other children from the village. In 1884, he was enrolled in Viborg Katedralskole. At Copenhagen, Friis completed his studies in 1896 with a master's degree in history. He was a member of the university library at the University of Copenhagen from 1891 to 1900, during which he graduated with a doctorate in 1899 with a dissertation on Andreas Peter Bernstorff and Ove Høegh-Guldberg.
